I'm a bit of a GPS newbie, using TT6 on a Palm Treo.

I've got the maps of Europe, and I've been trying to plan some possible routes, and of course I want to start from a French channel port. I don't need TT trying to tell me which ferry to use and how to get there!

I can use Advanced Planning to set a start point (shouldn't that really be Advance Planning, as in "planning in advance", there's not much "advanced" about it?), but to try different routes all I can do is use "Travel Via ..", and I can't save the route.

Itineraries are more useful, and you can save them, but I can only get it to start an itinerary at the current (or last known) GPS position.

Is there any way of setting up an itinerary from a given starting point, or any other suggestions?

TIA
Rick

If you can keep the GPS receiver away from the satellite signals there is a way.

Plan a Route A to B starting from your desired start point. Only needs to be less than a mile. Tap Details and then Show Route Demo.

Go through and start the Demo, and as soon as it starts moving, tap the Screen and stop the Demo.

This then records your 'last known position' and you can plan an itinerary from that point. That is until you get a satellite fix. ;)

The easier way is to use something like Autoroute on the PC and using a program called ITNConv that can convert the pushpins to an itinerary file, to copy to the ITN Folder.

Thanks Richard, that sounds like a neat workround - I'll give it a try.

It's easy for me to disable the satellite signal as I'm running on a Palm smartphone and the GPS receiver is a separate device with a Bluetooth link - so I just leave it switched off!

I found references to ITNConv, but that would mean buying YASP (yet another software product), and a M$ one to boot. The reviews I've read of Autoroute 2007 are not exactly glowing either, so I think I'd prefer to avoid that!

It would be nice to be able to link an online planner like Multimap into TT, but that could be a bit of a challenge Confused

Cheers, Rick

Have a look at TYRE.

I think this might be of interest to you then.

Thanks again, that looks just like what I had in mind! I'll give it a try.
