Moderation - lack of consistency

As Bo Peep has said, the new off -topic forum will not be subject to 'Off-Topic' moderation but any discussions will still have to meet our basic standards of decorum. I don't think that needs to much explaining, we're all adults and know what is expected.

One thing from the very first post that got lost in all the discussion over locking for other reasons...
The only way that a duplicate post, or a double posting on a subject that is already being covered is spotted and locked, is if one of the moderators, or admin actually sees it!

In a huge rambling forum like this one with so many sections, that's not going to be an easy task.
But anyone who spots a new topic that repeats something being discussed elsewhere already, can always help out by posting and saying so, then putting a link to the earlier thread. If a mod comes along later and locks it, so well and good, but the main thing is to keep the posts together.
