8O I am new to gps use and just purchased a Garmin Summit and finding it great. Went on a quick 4 mile walk this am and had great fun. What I need to know is how to set the Summit to read British OS references. Or at least those in the format two letters and six numbers e.g. TQ625774. I think that's British OS, but as I said this is very new to me and a little confusing...

Are there any good FAQs I can be pointed to?

The Summit offers many reference options but I'm just not sure which one to use.

Trackmaker is free and supports OS Format, see http://www.gpstm.com/

Page 48 of your user's manual will tel you how to get OS references, by setting the Position Format to British Grid. Hope this helps.

You need to find the Map Datum and change it to Ord Srvy GB. That's what it's called on my Garmin GPS-V anyway. The other popular one is WGS-84.

ok.. well os grid references are easy.... lets say the gps is a little more accurate than most people woulda thought...... with the british datum.. the numbers are pretty simple...
on the satellite page on my etrex vista the location is given as xx xxxxx xxxxx, the xx = letters, thn just take the first 3 digits from the 2 sets of numbers and stick them down as XX-XXX-XXX et voila youve got the datum to os map standards..
