The different RDS Receiver versions:

The original 4V00.000 with the plastic bubble at the end of the cable

The European 4V00.010 with the plastic bubble near the connector

The New 4V00.013 with ferrites and straight connector

Thanks for all that info Mike.

I guess it will be the back end of this week before I get anything with the postal strike.

Our local Comet have them in. The box has completely changed too so don't go looking for the old style blister pack.

MINE HAS JUST ARRIVED! Royal Mail special delivery.

It just came in a small bag; no box or anything. Naturally, I plugged it into my 520 and... I get a solid green circle! Haven't been on the road, but this looks like success!

Mine has arrived too, the plastic bag it comes in says it's a 2V00.006, but on the device itself it's a 4V00013 and has the ferrites/straight connector etc. The letter which comes with it says they "have repaired my product". Not had chance to try it yet.

Mine arrived this morning as well, wxchanged for a modified unit! . My car's in for service so I can't try it. Threre was a sticker on the bag saying that you should read the enclosed leaflet for important setup instructions. Needless to say there was no leaflet!

Does anyone (Mike?) know the recomended positioning for the arial lead?

I just ran mine along the bottom of my windscreen... picked up the signal no problem (where it failed to previously).

The recommended position is for the GPSR to sit in the lower corner of the screen (left or right, depending on where you sit in the car) and for the lead to go up the adjacent A post about 2" (5cm to you young 'uns and foreigners) and along the top of the screen.

Personally, I've found the best position for me is to have the GPSR just to the right of centre on my screen, again with the wire going straight up (think split-screen Moggie) and then along the top to the upper LH corner.

I don't even notice the wire any longer.

A couple of quick questions...

The new receiver... Does it have any way to connect it to an amplified aerial at all?

And has anyone tried it in a known blackspot (e.g. The A404(M)).

TIA

Oh well... I'm glad I pumped for TT Traffic last week then... Although I am a bit miffed at the narrow lanes that seems to stick on the M4 @ J6 for no apparent reason...

Nope.

Wouldn't cutting the end of the antenna wire off and adding a suitable connector achieve this? At least it's easier than taking the bubble apart.

As long as it's just a piece of string cable that should work... It's what I did to my GTM-21... Although it plays hell with the quality of the audio radio signal...

The wire from the bubble is indeed a single core aerial wire so it could be connected to an aerial BUT have found no reason to do this with the new receiver it simply works where the other iterations of RDS unit did not. Before you consider modification I would try actually using the unit as I am sure you will find it works as supplied - Mike
