:o I have just picked up a iCN650 off ebay. I logged on to the Navman site and found out that they will no longer support this unit. If I want to update the mapping on this bit of kit are there any options from other sources? Or am I stuck with the 2004 maps on there?

You may not be stuck - Navman have promised a software relase for the 6xx series, although there is some doubt as to when or even if it will be availible.
Look on the bright side - the unit will still work very well and get you where you want to go. The new maps are not that much different than the old ones. The only real difference is 7 digit post codes (Assuming you are UK based) which makes life a lot easier.

The iCN650 is a nice bit of kit still ( albeit with 2004 maps ) and I am sure you got it nice and cheap on Ebay.
I recently went from an iCN610 to a Navman F20 for two main reasons , the first being the 2006 maps and the second being the full 8 digit postcode search.
I brought the Navman F20 Europe from Handtec for approx. £ 155.00 ( inc. delivery ) which was ( and still is ) a VERY good price.

I'm quite sure that Navman released map updates for all old devices, including models like 610 and 620. 650 should be included.

I purchased a icn 650 2 years ago which cost £650,and now navman tell me updated maps are not available. A company that gives such poor service do's not deserves to be to be in busness. Evil or Very Mad

Yep -The list of unsupported Navman products is long, much longer than the currently supported products list.

Unsupported products
iCN 320 , 330, 510, 520, 530(? if not will be very soon), 610, 620, 630, 650. Delphi version of the iCN650 (USA only), Sony NPX? (iCN650 clone),
ALL PPC Products - Pin 300, Pin570, Bluetooth GPS receiver (Was that the 4400?),
Palm Product (Does anyone remeber if they did actually did release one, I think they did)

Likely to be obsolete as soon as they have sold exsiting stock.
All F series

Leaving
N Series

Know one really knows what will happen with the purchase of the Navman SatNav division by Mitac. I expect the brand will live on, but as for the current products - anyones guess.

The only thing I don't know is that the others are any better, except Garmin, who have been around long enough to know the value of loyal customers. However from a business point of view, Navman's owners have made a fortune and have now cashed up, who can blame them for making a quick buck at our expense if we were nieve enough to allow it. I only hope their new owners did not pay too much for the brand. After all, what's a pile of horse s@#t worth.

So as I see it, buy a SatNav the same way you buy a TV or Washing Machine - what you got is what you got. If you want a better one, buy a new one. Don't expect an "upgrade" anytime soon.

That makes for pretty bleak reading.
I have had a couple of Navman's , my latest being the F20 Europe ( only purchased a couple of months ago ).
Ooops !!!!

robertn, I feel you should take some time to review your facts before posting lists like that, otherwise people will become misinfirmed.

Having taken a moment to look at the Navman webstore, I see that they have released maps (for 2006) for all of their own iCN products apart from the iCN 550 and iCN650. Since they have not yet released any map updates for 2007 as yet, you may have jumped the gun by assuming that current products won't get updated.

I followed up my investigations and called through to their support line to double check the facts. They confirmed that the PPC and Palm products are end-of-life. The Sony NPX and Delphi are out of their control apparently, as those companies never made a request for map updates. The iCN550 and 650 are not going to be upgraded, but Navman have confirmed that they will continue to provide technical support for all of their products. I hope this has cleared things up.

Whilst I appreciate that the 550 is a different matter, why would the 650 not be updated? Doesn't it use the same basics as the 630/635? Couldn't an update for one of those devices be used on a 650?

No idea, guess that's a question for Navman technical support...

Please provide the link, I went to the Navman Store, dutifully followed the links and could only find SmartSt 2005 maps (which are out of stock anyway), hence my statement that the iCN6xx is unsupported.

If I have missed something I would love to be proved wrong.

Heres where I ended up

I won't disagree that the iCN 6xx maps are no longer produced, they clearly say that HERE

The concern is the list of iCN3xx and iCN5xx devices you have listed. This forum is about sharing information, so let's make sure the information is correct Smile

These are the "New" 2006 maps for the 300 series, and the just released "2006" maps for the 500 series. Last time I checked it was mid year 2007.

I suppose "Supported" has a difference meaning to you and me.
Passing off 12 month of map data as "New" is not what I call customer support. In my opinion (I am often told I have a strong one, so please take what I say with a grain of salt) these products are not supported. If they were, updates for them would be released around the same time as all other updates, not 6 months later.

I was therefore wrong to state they are unsupported without qualifiing what I beleive is acceptable levels of support. You are indeed correct.

I guess we'll have to wait and see how it all transpires Question Who knows what goes through the mind of a product manager??
