Perhaps the PGPSW home page and/or subscripton could be made clearer to indicate that the subscription is £2 per month or £19 per year instead of leaving this until the point of choosing a payment option.

The heading Members Area (£2) could possibly be deemed to be misleading since there may be some restrictions with this membership option.

Maybe there's also scope for a third option:

Option 1 - £2 per month
Option 2 - £19 per year

Option 3 - £xx lifetime subscription ( possibly with scope for a refund if a member qualifies for lifetime membership by reporting a camera etc)

Fair comment. We are actually working through options to make the whole subscription process clearer and simpler and so I'll take these comments on-board.

We won't however be refunding your sub if you qualify for a lifetime membership award, we're giving you future membership free for life after all!

Darren,

That thought about a refund was aimed at my 'option 3 - lifetime subscription' because if somebody has signed up for 'lifetime' then presumably the only way to give free lifetime subscription would be to give a refund (or partial refund) of what had already been paid - otherwise their lifetime subscription would not be given free by PGPSW as it would already have been paid for IF PGPSW introduced a lifetime subscription option.

Have I made this any clearer?

Ah yes, sorry I'd misunderstood. We haven't actually given any consideration to a lifetime subscription option. I'm not sure how practical that would be nor if there would be many takers?

a quick calculation:

average age of satnav user: 30

average life of human: 75

= 45 years for 'lifetime'

assuming a special discount of 25% (i.e. £15 per year) for a lifetime sub you're still looking at £675... (minus paypal fees etc etc) not sure how popular that option would be...

Crikey, I was calculating 'Lifetime' sub as being 5 * Annual = £95 and even then I doubt many would take it up.

I belong to the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE) which is best known for the Royal Show in Stoneleigh (south of Coventry). I joined as a life member (for, what was then, quite a large amount of money) about 20 years ago. With the annual rise in the membership costs, my life membership has now just about paid for itself. When I bought my life membership there was a single fee. Nowadays they take your age into consideration – the younger you are the more you have to pay!

My Old school society (sounds far more impressive than it actually is) has an annual subscription of £5.00. I asked if they had a lifetime option. They replied that it just wasn’t worth it to the society – they used to offer it as an option, but over the years inflation has turned the one-off lifetime payment into an almost worthless amount.

Regards,

It was just an idea....obviously not a good one.

If it ain't broke don't fix it and if the current system works, leave well alone.

Keep up the good work lads anyway

In that case, FREE membership for all Laughing Laughing

Seriously, though, I had thought maybe £75 or so may be taken up by members.

On the up side, if a member 'leaves' you still have their subscription paid up.

On the down side, it's a pain to come up with a good figure and difficult to administer on top of everything else you guys do.

OMG

in 45 years this website'll be re branded as GPSU

Gallactic Positioning System Universe and it'll be surgically installed so no pockets required. We'll all be living in test tubes and via a genetic modification, no one will be capable of speeding so no speed camera database.

Anyway, confident aren't we? 8)

If you think 45 years is a lifetime, why does my lifetime membership run out in 20 years 52 days?? Laughing

That's why I'm not quibbling about my thingy saying my subscription expires in 18 years, 297 days - I just think of it as my lifetime expiring before my subscription Wink . However, I do believe the actuarial calculation currently puts male life expectancy to age 86 (still beats my subs Crying or Very sad )

By which time, it'll be appropriate for you to think up a new signature. Laughing
