|
|
I recently purchased (Dec 2006) an O2 XDA Orbit (WM5) and installed my copy of TTN5. All worked perfectly until this week when I needed to do hard reset due to another programme causing mischief and then went to reinstall TTN5. I initially installed the 5.21 upgrade and all worked perfectly apart from there not being any voices available. Last night I got the CDs out and went to install a voice file through the normal install method (setup.exe), but the system threw up an installation error (no not the lack of memory!)
" TomTom setup Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" (I do have screen shots of the error, but cannot post them on here!)
I tried a soft rest and resync on the Phone and restarted the computer, but to no avail. I unistalled TTN5.21 from the phone and then tried a full install from basics, but the same error kept occuring. I know that the system works very well on the phone and it is irritating that it won't reinstall. There is nothing in the TomTom FAQ and they don't support it via their telephone support line.
Has anyone got any ideas? :x _________________ Where the Fucawi?? |

Failing any help on the install front! Can anyone recommend which files from the CD need to be put into the Phone memory and where exactly they need to be placed (GB - Jane). I think that there are 3 files relevant to each voice (.wav, .cab and 1 other).
Can these be dragged into the Phone and activated like a normal .cab file? _________________ Where the Fucawi?? |

Put a new folder on your Card, I've named mine New Folder, and copy the Jane .cab file to it, making sure you change the file to read only, or you will only be able to use it once, use file explorer to find the file, tap on it and install Jane. (I have a PDA not a phone but it should work for you). _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Go to the voice folder on the CD and copy the file named engf.cab to your devices memory card (forget about the other files, this is the one you need for the Jane voice).
Use File Explorer on the Orbit to locate the CAB file and tap it, this will install the Jane voice, as LP has mentioned set the file properties to Read Only otherwise the file will disapear when you run it.
If you need to install the application from scratch you can do the same by copying CAB files to your memory card, it might be worth downloading the TTN5,21 update from TomToms web site if your disk is damaged, this is a full copy of the software and doesn't require previous versions to be installed in order to work. For some information on cab file extraction please have a read of THIS Thread - Mike |
