If you want a map of transmitter locations and exact area of cover, have a look at the following - given by station or area: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/radiolicensing/mcamaps/MCAs.htm

It is some consolation that Stratford-upon-Avon is just outside all the transmittion areas - so I cannot really blame Garmin for the lack of message reception.

Apologies if you have seen this many times (perhaps someone can tell me why the areas are anything but circular).

Thanks for the link - I've seen this page before - it gives the maximum possible coverage with the best aerial, which most SatNav units don't include - so these shouldn't be taken as a guide to where you will get signal (more a guide, as in your case, of where you will never get signal).

It's not circular because buildings, hills and valleys get in the way / help propogate the signal further.
