That's a BIG job!
We were trying to get all the pubs in the Good Pub Gide entered, but CAMRA said the info was copyright and would not let us use it.
Very shortsighted in my opinion CAMRA!! Evil or Very Mad

I cannot possibly see our Camra can claim copyright on a property location that they do not own, effectively the location of any pub is in the public domain and if you ask any pub landlord I am very shore they would welcome any further publicity for their premises, Copyright is a very difficult thing to prove believe me Ive been there and it cost me a lot of money after discussions with barristers etc and having to settle for legal costs out of court (I was the victim by the way which virtually proved I was wronged), I would imagine anybody who claims copywrite on POIs would have a very difficult claim to prove.

Try telling that to the guys here... they definitely claim copyright on the camera database files and they are based on information that is in the public domain....

I can only say it as I see it (been there,Done that) I dont blame anybody for claiming copyright but proving it is another matter, It cost me approx £2000 to spend 25mins on a three way conversation with a london barrister in my solicitors office telling me that i did not stand an hope in hells chance of winning despite another company blatantly using my electrical designs to manufacture for my prevouse customer and issued my drawings to the customer with their name on and including my spelling mistakes and other incorrect, the estimated costs would be £12000 -£15000 to recover about £5000. whats the loss in a free POI database???

How on earth can they say it's copyright?!?!?! Even if it were surely they want as many people to easily find their members pubs. Don't they campaign for real ale and try to get people to go to their members pubs. Surely this is an ideal way to do it!?

Hopefully LionUk you've explained the benefits and they see the light! Wink

hello again all
there have email reply say
Code:
Thanks for the e-mail and apologies for the delay in replying. I have been consulting my colleagues in our publications department..
It is something that we have been looking at.
However we are unable to operate any systems like this until we have the publication database  which we are currently working on.
When this is all up and running we will review the business case for all sat nav / electronic / website / SMS formats for all CAMRA publications to see what is possible, what will be required, and to make sure that by making our data available in other formats that we don’t lose campaigning income.
Thanks for your enquiry and your interest.
Cheers
Iain

what you think?

At least its a response LionUk, you can only wait and see, But it only takes one input to start a sub category, you never know it could be full by the time they make a decision.

Andy - do you mean the 'Good Pub Guide' (by Alisdair Aird and Fiona Stapley) or the 'Good Beer Guide' (by Roger Protz) ?

I've got the Good Beer Guide (Protz), but I was actually referring to the work already done by "emdeeme" in THIS THREAD. He mentions using the "Good PUB Guide", but the project got stopped in its tracks because "oldie" had a reply from CAMRA saying they weren't allowed to use the info.

Do you think the difference between the two books is significant, then? Could we use one and not the other?

Andy, If you can find a driver perhaps we can do a survey and input from actual locale(s), It might get a bit out of location later, and we may have to do a resurvey backwards, you never know pgpsw may offer to pay expenses.
