Just to let people know I uploaded the PGPSW POI database and MaFt's POI database to my nuvi 660 today and now the unit hangs on the "Loading Maps..." stage of the bootup process.

I can't delete the files manually as the unit wont even mount on my PC now and the reset button on the back does nothing.

Absolutely gutted.

benjones, you could try a different usb port on our pc. my nuvi sometimes doesn't get recognised unless i plug it into a different port.

benjones - if you read the manual (if you haven't got a copy to hand, it's on the Garmin website) which has the information for how to perform a hard reset and delete the user data - this should sort out the problem.

I've tried a different USB port, I've tried holding down the bottom right hand corner of the screen on startup to clear user data and I've even tried the maintenance menu (top left hand corner on bootup) to clear eveything. Maintenance menu tells me the device should be detected over USB in that mode but it still doesn't work.

I'm going to take it back to Halfords now as I don't think it's recoverable. Do you think the cause of this was uploading more than 85 sub-categories?

could just be coincidence as i've had all the available poi's installed and working on the nuvi 360, and mikealder has had the same on his nuvi.

i can't see the limit reappearing on the nuvi 660 when it is basically an upgraded 360

As a thought can you use POILoader to put one speed camera POI file on to an SD card, insert the SD card to the Nuvi then when it prompts to transfer the POI from the memory card to the internal memory select Yes. This is worth a try before taking it back - Mike

Hi Mike,

I haven't got an SD card unfortunately (I use mainly Sony products so I've got loads of memory sticks!) but it's too late to try that now anyway as I've just got a new unit from Halfords.

Now I've got to decide what to do about the POI database. What I basically did was combine the PGPSW and MaFt database into one but deleted any duplicates. This gave me a total of 300 sub-categories and roughly 92,000 POIs. Any suggestions - I was thinking maybe I should only keep sub-categories of POIs that I really need seperated (such as Fuel, Speed Cameras etc)...?

I would suggest you have a long think about which specific POI's you actually need, if you put the whole lot on it can take ages to find the actual category you are looking for.
For the record I have successfully loaded 75787 POI files split across 256 categories on my Nuvi310D - Mike

I was trying to help, I wasn't trying to be rude. The manual isn't supplied, except on your broken Nuvi, hence the reference to the website.

Well not strictly true as my first 660 that I took back to Halfords today due to it being unable to boot had been loaded with the full PGPSW database with parts of yours included also. This gave me roughly 300 sub-categories and 92,000 POIs. Obviously this was just too many for it.
