Have the Nuvi 350 and has locked 2 of these like it has fried the unit. Only did it when trying to load POI's Unit was unrecoverable. Received replacement unit yesterday, loaded poi's and happened again. Taken back to reatailer purchased from who said I have wrecked it........ Please advise as "if" i receive a 3rd Nuvi I will be wary about loading any POI's.

the tests were based on MY i3 and MY nuvi 360. no problems were found with the nuvi (or since the initial testing) hence the statement that it does not have the limit of 85 categories.

I intend loading the pocketgps database on my brother's i3 for my holiday. Is there any issues in doing this? And am I right in thinking the POI loader for this is: UK-POILoader i3, Nuvi etc. He would be very happy if I fried the thing in the process.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I doubt he would be impressed to be honest.
If you use POILoader and the speed zoned file set in csv format for the Garmin devices it will be fine, you cannot put wav audio files on the i3, but loaded with the speed zoned file set you will get an alert on the screen as to the type and speed of the camera you are approaching, the unit will bong once to alert you to the presence of the camera, if over the speed limit for the camera it will bong untill you slow down or take a chance - Mike

Ive just loaded up the beta version and it froze. Followed instructions to delete the poi file and start again and it didnt work.

If I reverted back to the previous POI loader would this cure the problem and allow me to work as normal. Dont particularly want to call Garmin tomorrow.

Your advice would be appreciated.

Hi all,

I also had this problem, and managed to sort it without buying a card reader.

First, for those of you who haven't locked their garmin yet, go to their website and get the web updater. This ensures you have the latest version of the software. I had an I3 with v3.0, apparently v3.2 fixes this specific problem, the latest version is 3.3 so hopefully if you update to that before loading your POI's then it won't lock.

For those of you like me who didn't have this version and managed to lock their I3, I did the following.

Take out the micro sd card.

Turn the device on, you should get to a screen which tells you to plug the card in. The device is not locked at this time.

Bring up the latest POI loader (might have to be the beta version) which has the option to remove all POI's. Select to remove and click next. It gives you a warning that you will lose all POI's and asks if you want to continue. Plug in the micro sd card, then immediately click next. If you're quick enough, it will remove the POI's before the device has chance to lock up. Took me a couple of go's but it worked pretty quickly.

This means you don't need to lose all of your settings by doing a reset (which doesn't seem to remove POI's anyway) and you don't need to buy a card reader. I'm guessing for other garmin devices it will probably be a similar option, simply don't plug the card in till the last second, and the system should be able to remove the POI's before it can lock up.

Hope this helps!

Dale.

Many thanks had thought I'd wrecked a trusty friend. Worked like magic after second attempt.
