Hello

I''m about to purchase my first sat nav and at present the tomtom 910 has to be my pick due to its 20gb harddrive.

I would like to play my mp3 via the stereo and I understand the 910 can do this but how and would I need to purchase the tomtom car connect kit? If so how easy is this to instal as I understand it''s installed behind the dashboard?

I would love to hear from 910 owers on this subject please.

As far as I know the Car Connect device is not yet available for sale/ purchase, however you can still use the Bluetooth audio output from the 910 to play all sounds through your stereo IF the car head unit is equiped to receive and process bluetooth audio signals, there are a number of devices that can do this.

As for the installation acording to the TomTom web site

unfortunatly my head unit does not have bluetooth, however it does have a usb port so maybe I could use a bluetooth dungle?

I did notise the "for professional install" only warning on the tomtom website however as hardly anyone really sells this I wonder where I could go to get this installed.

Its on sale here.....

I use one of those dummy cassettes with a wire that plugs into the TT screen mount. You can get them cheaply and they work fine.

thank you but the whole point of the car connect kit is so you don't have wires etc and everything is streamed via bluetooth.

P.S I've decided against getting this now anyways as no one including tomtom themselves seems to know how it work exactly, how much it costs or even whom can fit it! Shocking! g!

Don't Bother is what I think is meant here, the transmitters that are legal to use are so low in output power that they get drowned out by other legal radio stations when traveling distance throughout the country, London is very bad for this in my experiance.
The illegal transmitters were (apparantly) higher power and didn't suffer from the same problem as the CE marked legal devices now available.

One other alternate device that I use with the 910 (as well as other devices in the car) is an FM Injection unit, this takes the audio feed from the nav unit and injects it directly to the aerial input of the stereo, because it also disconnects the car aerial when active the signal is strong, with no bleed accross from other stations. These are available from Maplins (see HERE ) - Mike
