Folder size is an issue with some e-mail addresses, so I thought it would be better to explain how to do this, its not too difficult and takes around 30 mins to get a full set of files in the correct format:

1/ Download and install Audacity to your PC, don't worry its free.
This software package can be used to create your own files using a microphone or use it to convert ogg files to the wav format.
There are a number of other sat nav systems using the ogg file format, so there is a variety of ready made audio file sets for camera warning. One excellent source is Ray's site which can be found HERE the voice files you want are located at the bottom of the linked page, in 22050Hz format. There are three to choose from.

2/ Use Audacity (or any other good audio package) to open each individual track then use the file/ Export as WAV option.

3/ Re-name the files to match the file set you use:

For those using the Single file download:

pocketgps_uk_sc.wav

For those using the consolidated by type file download:

pocketgps_uk_gatso.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile.wav
pocketgps_uk_redlight.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs.wav
pocketgps_uk_temp.wav

For those using the Speed Zoned file type download:

pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_30.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_40.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_50.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_60.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_70.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_tba.wav
pocketgps_uk_gatso_var.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_20.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_30.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_40.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_50.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_60.wav
pocketgps_uk_mobile_70.wav
pocketgps_uk_moblie_tba.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_20.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_30.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_40.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_50.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_60.wav
pocketgps_uk_specs_70.wav
pocketgps_uk_redlight.wav
pocketgps_uk_temp.wav

Use the above as a tick list to compile your file list, most of the above are available already, only the mobile 20 and gatso 20 require creation for a full set, I use the basic mobile or Gatso warning for the files that are missing, simply duplicate the file and name accordingly..

4/ Put all the wav files in the same folder as your bmp/ csv files, then use the new Beta POILoader to install the files to the device.

On my T/F Card the only files in the Garmin folder are 2 files.

1 files called "GMAPSUPP" and another called "GMAPSUPP.UNL"

The instructions to change voices say there should be a voice folder on the T/F Card.

Two of us have tried getting this working on the i3 with no luck as yet, it works on the nuvi's, we will have to wait for Garmin to come up with a list of hardware that supports this feature. I have tried using the warnings with version 2,70 and 3,20 so far - Mike

I will give it a try on my C510D when I get a moment.

Anyone know if the 5xx has more in common with the i3 or the Nuvi (apart from the Nuvis media capabilities)? I was led to believe it was more or less the same as the Nuvi without the above, but that could just be sales spiel.

Currently i use Ash10s Camera Updater to give me an initial warnig regardless of speed and then customise the Overspeed warnings.

I know that CU only works with the POILoader version of the PGPSW database and not the speed zoned (error messages due to missing CSV files etc), so it's a choice between spoken voices or the extra functions from Ash10.... Hmmmm
This is an interesting issue for the i3 - however, (I appreciate it's no help to you!) the Nuvi supports both an initial warning and an overspeed warning simply by using the Speed Zoned DB file and POI Loader in Express Mode. I'm not sure if this is a purposeful distinction between the ranges, or simply the i3 is yet to be updated with this functionality.

The UI is much closer to the Nuvi than the i3, but the exact feature set is unique to each range of units.

I imported the wav files into my POI's for use on my nuvi 310D using the beta version of POI loader and they work fine.

Only issue that I have with the result is that on approaching a camera location "Liz" warns me repeatedly of the camera at 5sec. intervals until passed, whereas previously with POI loader 2.3.2 I would get an initial warning and display and then only a continuous repeat if I stayed over the relevant speed limit.

Does anyone know if it is possible to change this.

Cheers,

A

Wasn't there a bug in a previous version of POILoader that caused POIs to alarm continously???

What have you got selected in the Settings/ Proximity Points/ Alerts (Change Button), Custom POIs checked then select the Audio button, set it to Single Tone.
I have noticed a few double alerts today when driving without a route planned, so I will try it in the morning with a route and see if this alters the behaviour - Mike

Mike,

I did look at this and set the nuvi proximity alerts audio setting to single tone, but Liz still keeps alerting continuously until I have passed the camera location.

I even uninstalled the beta POI loader and reinstalled to see if that worked but the fault was the same today.

Paul2005

I think that you are right, I remember a previous version that gave continuous alerts regardless of actual approach speed.

I might revert to the "bong" alerts until a solution is offered as she is doing my head in.

Thank for your replies,

A

I have had the same today, at the end of the day this is a Beta Test version, so if we don't like what it does and want it changing the best course of action is to inform them - if nobody lets them know they probably won't change it (unless they are reading this).

One other facility I would like is two wav files per camera, one for a proximity warning that only sounds once as approaching the camera, the second should only be used IF speeding relative to the speed of the camera POI, this dual capabilty would be a major benefit if possible. - Mike

Hi all,
Has the little problem now sorted itself out, as in continious warnings?
I have thought of installing the new wav files but I think I might need better instructions if anyone can help please. Obviously I have the poi`s and the speedcam files in a single folder and have installed the audacity programme
I`m afraid I dont really know what to do after though.

Thanks...Dilwyn
