tom tom one congestion zone extension

Does anyone know what tom tom will do when the congestion zone extension will come in to force on Feb 19th.

Is there an update out for my tom tom or plans to push an update out.

Tim Buxton of PGPSW has made an ov2 file of the extended Congestion Charge Zone. You can get it from HERE Just copy and paste the .ov2 and .bmp file to your map folder. It's good and it's free.

While Tim's POI data will obviously be very useful for those who regularly drive around that area, it won't be as much help to those of us who are only occasional visitors to the area, or who are on routes passing through the area, as the TomTom option to 'Avoid Toll Roads' will still be only avoiding the original Congestion Charge Zone.

As I understand it, it's not always easy to spot the warning signs, before it's too late to turn onto another road to avoid the CCZ.

I realise that I can inspect the route before I set off, looking for the CCZ symbol, but I find that, depending on the map zoom level, only some of the symbols in an area are visible.

If I change the zoom level slightly, other symbols become visible in the same area, whereas symbols which were visible have now disappeared.

Any suggestions ?

Lost_Property, thanks for the endorsement. I'm trying to make it better but have drawn a blank from TfL who, for some reason, are based in Coventry!

Krikey we are expecting this to go live in 4 weeks now where is that sandtimer.

Surely as you mentioned they have to release the details.

And just to complicate matters, there are a couple of roads that go "through" the CCZ that will still be free - you can see them on the map at their website; the Edgware Rd that is the current western boundary, and the A40 (I think), so you can be "in" the CCZ for free! (Just don't turn off!)

Just to be clear...The avoid toll roads instruction is part of the actually map release not the Ov2? Hmmm So the revised Ov2...Is that just the additional extension or the whole zone including the extension - Will i need to keep the original poi or replace it

Also, If i for example i aviod toll roads that go part way of the journey but now goes thru the new zone, I guess i will then have to b on my P's&Q's and keep an eye out for roads I can actually turn down as oppose to roads the tomtom is suggesting - What a nightmare

It is not guaranteed as accurate, since I haven't ridden the perimeter of the extension (yet), which is something I did two or three times in the making of the original. My file has been made using the TfL map, Google Earth, a bit of local knowledge and a bit of guesswork.

The file will hopefully be available from this site and all feedback is welcome to increase its accuracy.

You can cross through the congestion charge zone for free from the North using

Edgware Rd
Park Lane
Grosvenor Place
Vauxhall Bridge Road
& across Vauxhall bridge

TFL Didn't make this very clear

And you can cross West to East..or vice versa if you like. (A40..Marylebone Road etc etc.)I fail to see how you can deviate from these clearly marked routes into the CC roads. If you decide to have a 'warning tone' with your CC poi, be warned that it will ding or dong very, very frequently...no excuse whatsoever to wander in the Zone.
