I realise this has probably been covered already, maybe someone can just provide a link to a thread already covering it, but what are the main benefits for TT6? I currently have TT5 on my SPV M5000 (JasJar) and don't really have any problems with it. Are there any ground breaking features in version 6 that I really should know about?

Thanks for any help Smile

From what I have just read on the TT site there is no advantages for me personally.

Quote:
Realistic visual instructions: Visuals on your NAVIGATOR replicate road signs, making them easier to follow

I prefer to look at the actual road signs.

Quote:
Pedestrian centric map: View your position using the special 2D map view which is fixed in one position and which can be zoomed in and out for better orientation when navigating on foot.

I don't use mine for walking.

Quote:
Huge choice: TomTom NAVIGATOR speaks some 22 languages in over 50 different voices.

I only need one language and I have that.

Quote:
Easy call handling: On-screen instructions remain visible while making phonecalls or receiving SMS messages.

My PDA cannot connect with a phone and I don't need that anyway.

Quote:
TomTom HOME: Use TomTom HOME software to manage the files on your device (maps, etc), get new updates on your pc or Mac in advance, and much more.

I don't need this.

Quote:
Pre-installed Safety Cameras database: The most up-to-date available list of safety cameras is pre-installed on your NAVIGATOR. Click here for more information.

I use PGPSW database.

Quote:
Speeding alert: Alerts you that you’re speeding, even if you're not in navigation mode.

I prefer to rely on road signs and my speedo.

Quote:
Clear & accurate spoken and visual instructions: Easy to follow, calm instructions given with plenty of notice mean that you can focus on your driving.

I get this already, with TTN5.

That leaves the maps, which I assume will be updated but living not too far from Chatham, where they have made what was a one-way system back into a two-way, and not on TTN6 maps, I'll be sticking with TTN5.

I tried driving from Rochester Airport to home yesterday, via Chatham, and 'Jane' is now in a secure unit. :P

As I still use TTN3 but have tried TTN6 and was impressed with the way the later gave better instructions when two manouvers were close together, eg " At the end of the road turn right then take the second right".... the best the former did was .." Turn right then stay in the right lane"...is this new to TTN6 or did TTN5 do it ??

TT5 does that already.

I think I'm with you Lost. It doesn't look like there's anything big enough to make me want to upgrade, especially as it sounds like TT6 is actually slower than 5... and my M5000 isn't on the supported list, I guess due to mine being landscape rather than portrait by default.

I think I'll wait to see what comes of this AndyCr15.

TT6 loads a lot faster than TT5.

Supposedly the map info for TT6 will show the actual exit names, and not just the exit numbers.

TT6 now allows you to search for POI's around your current position, along your route, or around your destination - I'm pretty sure that's not in TT5.

If TT6 would allow you to input street name first instead of city, and state which freeway direction you need to take, and tell you which side of the street your destination is on - it'd be pretty close to perfect.

TomTom V 6 take just under 4 seconds from the time you tap on the Navigator shortcut to showing the map view.

The POI limit has now gone up to 100. Also the spoken direction can be set to increase in volume as the vehicle speed increases.
It may not be a big improvement for those using V5 but the likes of me that were still using V3 the Western European version on DVD with the seamless maps was well worth the upgrade.

I thought v5 increased the volume with speed too?

Yes, I would have done the same in your position.

Not having used V5 I wasn't aware of that, The other advantage was that I was able to transfer my V3 back onto my original XDA Which was originally registered on there and reactivate it and give that to my niece to use.

All these fancy additions that have been added to tt6 are great but at the end of the day a sat nav system is only as good as the maps it uses and i don't don't know if it just me but i seem to be coming accross more and more roads that just arn't mapped in tt6, did they update the maps when they released the new version?
i've been an avid fan of tom tom for the last few years and have took the plunge with every new upgrade/version they have done but tt6 has left me wondering why i bothered, their support couldn't confirm it would run on my m500 even though they say it works fine on the imate jam, but i still got it anyway, it works fine but the maps seem so out of date.
never thought i'd say it but i've ditched tom tom for navigator 6, not as slick or as smooth but the maps seem a lot more up to date, so far i haven't found a road not mapped in navigator

I just wish there was an option to switch of the 'speeding' display.

It is convinced that the speed limit on the A1 Gateshead Western bypass is 30mph, it's not, it's 70mph! Granted that 30mph might be a reasonable average speed considering the congestion on this stretch of road, I find it distracting that it's flashing red at me when I'm doing 20mph under the speed limit!

To clarify, I'd like to get rid of the flashing warning that I'm speeding, but still maintain a readout of my speed.
