Hi guys
This is probably a very simple question for you to answer.
I've been looking at a copy of TomTom mobile 5 on Ebay with the Bluetooth GPS module but am unsure if this is compatible with the HTC Tytn. I have been confused by the TomTom Navigator 5 software, as i'm unsure if the tytn is classed as a phone or PDA.
I don't want to spend the money, for it not to work. HAs anyone had the HTC Tytn working succesfully with TomTom, as TomTom don't support the Tytn.
Please help clear up my confusion!!

Thanks

I have a HTC Tytn, and I have used it with Navigator 5 for a couple of months already, with no issue.
I have also just bought Navigator 6, and it works perfectly with that too.

The Tytn is a Pocket PC based phone, it is NOT a smart phone as such. To put TomTom on the device you need the TomTom Navigator package and a Bluetooth GPS - Mike

...But the TyTN runs on Windows Mobile 5, NOT pocket pc, operating system .. so can TomTom 6 (maps) be installed to a storage card from the DVD version in the same way as I have with TT5 ?? When TT say use the version for a pocket pc do they mean one that is running Windows Mobile 5 ?? It's all very confusing.

I rang Global Positioning Systems but they couldn't tell me if TT Nav 6 is compatible with the TyTN or not .. You'd think they would take the trouble to find out wouldn't you, particualrly since the TyTN is also sold by O2 and QTek under different names.

Maybe a sticky thread for all the devices that people have TT Nav 6 successfully installed on would be good - with a note saying which system on the DVD was chosen for the installation.

Did you choose the Pocket PC option on the installation DVD when you installed TT Nav 6 on your TyTN?

WM2005 is the opperating system running on the device, it is the hardware the defines Smart Phone (no touch screen) or PDA Phone (touch screen) either type can use a version of WM2005 - this often leads to understandable confusion - Mike

... But TT, on their Nav 6 installation DVD, only give these installation options:

1) for Palm
2) for PocketPC
3) for S60
4) for Symbian UIQ 3rd edition

so, does 2) for Pocket PC, apply only to Pocket PC's, or does it include Smartphones with touchscreens, like the HTC TyTN ? If not which option should one use?

Yeah, I think Alix is right. Anything with a touch screen is seen as a Pocket PC (with or without phone), anything without touch screen is a Smartphone.

Good luck!

Yes, of course. The Tytn is a standard PocketPC device running Windows Mobile 2005.
In any case, if you connect the Tytn itself to your PC rather than the card reader, TomTom Home will automatically recognise the connected Tytn as a PocketPC device. If on the otehr hand you connect the card reader, then TomTom Home will ask the question, and you'll need to choose "PocketPC".

While we are on a TyTN thread..

I'm running TTN6 on my Orange M3100 (TyTN)... Works fine but on a longish journey (80 plus miles) it appears to stop working, the map doesn't update, hit the red end call button then you suddenly hear all the
voice prompts again....

Tap the TT icon on the screen and hey presto all is still working and the map is updating fine...

Strange one that, any idea's....

Phil
