Hi,

I just bought an ASUS A636 as a GPS unit and it works great for that but I was planning on use it's MP3 player features in the car. However the cradle/charger mount totally covers the headphone jack so I can't hook any standard FM transmitter into it to integrate it into the car stereo.

However the unit has bluetooth capabilities, does anybody know of an FM transmitter that will accept a bluetooth signal? I guess the other option is to drill a hole in the cradle ;)

Cheers,

Art.

Hole in cradle is definitely the better solution.

It is stupid to have the cradle blocking the headphone jack.
Actually it is a bad design to have the headphone jack at the bottom right next to the interface connector.

I suggest you find other solution, such as a different car mount.

Actually, driiling a hole in the cradle may be easier/cheaper.

Yes, it's cheaper to buy a 2nd Asus mount for experimentation then is is to buy a 3rd party mount AND a 2nd power supply.

And yes it's a stupid design.

A second Asus mount is expensive.

I just had a look at the Asus mount. There is quite a long way to drill. But there may not be anything in the way (I have not opened it) as there should not be any electronics in it other than a plain PCB with circuit from the DC input (which is the other side of headphone jack) to the bottom connector.

If you get a cheap universal mount you can still use the Asus power with the DC dongle (DCA73) you can get from here:

I like to add that the speaker on the Asus is very loud so the issue had not come up for navigation purpose.

Of course palying mp3 is a different matter.

I don't want a cheap mount I want a solid one, a Ram-mount style + a 2nd power cord is more then a 2nd Asus mount (that's assuming I break the first one)
