Just seen this offer in todays paper. It would be interesting to know what the software is and what GPS it comes with.

Looks quite a bargain.

But who's going to admit to going in???? Rolling Eyes

Must say this looks like quite a bargain - just hope you can buy a car power adaptor for it or its not going to be much practical use.

If anyone does manage to see one could you post some specs of the gps unit and the pda.

Hi

Just picked up one of these systems,

Very suprised to find the unit is running PPC2003 with a 400mhz XScale Processor, was expecting a less powerful unit

Comes with 3 Years warranty,

2 MMC Cards (256MB each), one has UK and Major Roads europe, Navtech 2003 Maps seem very up to date

RoyalTek Antenna. Cigrette adaptor, Case, Heavy duty screen mount, 2CDs of software (Backups of MMC cards).

All in all, nothing I could buy elsewhere would offer the same for the price!

I got one myself today!!
Shop opens at 9am. I arrived a Glasgow branch at 9:05am. There are at least 40 people buying TV, pda and dvd player etc. Car park half full. The shelf for PDA was emptied by the time I arrived!! I was lucky that they have a few at the back! Anyway, I am now charging the pda and later the receiver. My first gps journey will start tonight. Will let u guys know the verdict.

Dave, would it be possible to open a forum for the Aldi bundle Medion pda. They have similar things in German version of pocket gps. I think we will need quite a bit of support in the next few weeks to come.

Does anyone know if the maps for the UK are of street level or not?

Thanks,

Rich

Hi

The Maps are Full Street Level for the UK and very recent

They are dated July2003

And compare to the Autumn/Winter 2003 release from Navtech for the Incar system I have in my Fiat Ulysse.

They show my street with the correct name and as one way

In the 2002 Edition it had an old street name
In the Spring 2003 Edition it was the correct Name but the one way designator was missing
It has been corrected for the Autum 2003 Edition, so this confirms these really are very uptodate maps with the package

Regards

Victoria

That certainly does appear to be a good deal Thumbs Up The PocketPC is almost definitely an Asus/Mitac clone (which is no bad thing) and getting a 400MHz XScale unit running PocketPC 2003 is a good start.

If there is sufficient demand I'm sure we can start a forum for all the proud new owners, the biggest problem is we have no experience of the software package that is supplied.

I am still very excited. I have just got the nav software installed. Tried to get the receiver charging in the car. Unfortunately, the fag charger in Smart switch itself off when the engine is off!!! So, I really need to sit in the car to wait now.

I had a quick go at the maps etc. Yes, detailed map in the uk!! I am so pleased!! Calculation is fast and even have simulation of the trip. (need to turn the volume down or put the headphone off -- the whole office is staring at me!! Turn left in 100 yards.....)

Silly question though: how do I switch the PDA off? When I press the on/off button, the backlight is switch off but can still see. What is the official way to switch off MS windows? Anyone knows?

Or do I just wait for the machine to switch itslef off after how long? 3 mins?

Thanks, Rich!

With most PocketPC's, if you hold down the power button it switched the backlight off but leaves the unit ON. To switch off just press the button momentarily.

I would love to see TT2 and the Aldi special compared side by side. I have a TT2 in the missus car but I quite fancy another one for when I get my motor.

We'll certainly look into getting a copy for review, the trouble is that Aldi rarely repeat these offers so even if it proves to be as good an offer as it appears it's too late if you didn't manage to get a unit today Crying or Very sad

I don't believe they've gone that fast. I've read reports that most people were after the TV's. 8O
