I notice that you have created .wav files which is what the older units have to use because they didnt have MP3 capability . If your unit uses mp3 technology the sound files should be mp3 not wav.

Well I converted all my sound files to mp3 format and reloaded them onto the SD card on my Garmin 265WT using POI Loader. But still all I get is the bongs.

Can anyone help me with the following questions aimed at getting my voice files to play rather than the bongs:

1. Is it sufficient to just have the mp3 files in the source folder on my PC where PGPSW downloads and extracts to (and where the gpx files live) - or do they need to be in the same folder as the output file from POI Loader (which for me is a folder called 'POI' on my SD card which I then insert into my Garmin)?
2. What combination of ticks do I need for 'Proximity Alerts on my Garmin? At the moment I have both Garmin Safety Cameras and Custom POI's ticked.

Hiya there Jon,
Im fairly new to this myself so forgive me if I give you duff advice.
As far as Im aware Nuvis use .wav as opposed to .mp3 so you were right with the sound files originally.

The only thing I can imagine is that you're not naming the files the same as the ASH camera manager names them.
When you use Ash's facility it creates its 'own' names for the various files that (i believe) are different to the ones that they would normally be called if you simply download the garmin gpsw files yourself.

The reason I think this is the situation is because when you download the voices available on this site, there are a number of options, one for the single database, one for the speed zoned, and another for the 'ash's camera manager speed zoned' which seems to suggest the filenames are different.

Personally If I were you I would check the folder Ash is saving its POI to, then make sure you have ticked seperate approach and overspeed warnings, also make sure 'sort by camera type and speed limit' is ticked.

Save your wav files to the folder ASH is using to save your POIs to, making sure the filenames match the ones in that folder. - You do NOT need to download the database yourself, as long as your logged into this site ASH will download the database to that folder automatically.
Now on your Garmin definitely disable the Gamin safety cameras POI and ensure custom POI is the only one selected.

Personally I would also make sure you've downloaded the correct voices that are for ASH's facility - and then use the mentioned program to convert them from MP3s to WAV

When you use POI loader make sure its pointing to the folder ASH is using to save the database to, which will now have your matching .wav files in it.

mp3 files won't work with the 265 as it doesn't have the mp3 player.

lonedreamer has hit the nail on the head. Read that post carefully....

Did you check the WAVs you are using have file names that match to the GPX files you have as i suggested above?

The WAVs go into the folder on your PC where you store you POIs prior to uploading to the unit.

As long as Custom POIs is ticked it should work.

The KEY to making this work is using the WAV files and not MP3 and making sure the file names of the WAV match to the GPX files. POILoader automatically matches WAV files to GPX with the same name. If they are different then you'll get bongs...

It does sound as though you are getting a bit confused on this .

The sound files wether they are .wav or mp3 go into the folder that POIloader uses to upload to your garmin and should match the names that Ash's camera manager program uses ie. PocketGPS_UK_Gatso_Forty.wav or mp3. In fact it wouldnt harm to put both .wav and mp3 in the folder .

They just stay in that folder and dont change its only the .gpx files that will change every time Ash's program downloads the database .

It would also be better to turn off the Garmin speed camera warnings until you manage to sort it out as you will be getting double warnings for some cameras from both databases

Thanks for all your help. Embarassingly, I have to confess my files were not correctly named - however, this came to light by chance. The filenames themselves were all correct, but I had added extensions (.wav .mp3) unnecessarily. This gave me the clue (from the Tom Tom page):

"When re-naming the files make sure that Windows Explorer tools/ Folder Options view tab is configured as shown below, otherwise it is quite easy for the resultant file to have two file extensions (then it doesn’t work)."

Windows, by default, hides common filename extensions - .wav and .mp3 are considered 'common' extensions. .gpx is not considered a common filename extension which is why this was still showing in the folder on my PC. Because I could see this extension, I wrongly assumed I needed to add the filename extensions to the .wav or .mp3 files. In error, this created double filename extensions.

I now have .mp3 voice files - POI Loader would not accept .wav voice files. I will be trying it out shortly. Your collective guidance has (fingers crossed) got me there in the end - much appreciated!

Downloaded POI Loader on Tuesday evening this week. Can't find the version number. It only mentions mp3 in the guidance instructions - I can't see any reference to wav format.

Am I stuck between a rock and a hard place - POI Loader only loads mp3; Garmin 265WT only plays wav?

You will probably see an error... unable to find \Garmin\sox.exe then display that it can't convert the wav file correctly. Go to

get the sox.exe zip file. Just drag it once unzipped (should just be one file and you will need sox.exe version 14.0.1) to your PC's Garmin folder (that should be where POI Loader is installed).

Re load your POI's again and the sox.exe will convert the .wav file properly. You may get a prompt to run sox.exe, click run.

I just tested it and it worked fine. You can try it out without heading out in the car.
Go to tools-settings-system and turn on GPS simulator.
Press and hold back for 2seconds (quickly gets you out to "Where to Map Menue"
Go to Where to-Extras-Custom POIs- Redlight Cameras.
Click on one
Click map then zoom in and press on a road that intersects with the redlight camera "dot".
Press "SetLoc" then press "GO!"
Press "yes" when asked if you'd like to simulate driving this route.
Sit back and Listen.

How do i stop the overspeed warnings and is it possible to use the camera icons supplied by pgpsw.
