A number of the Garmin products are shipping with either the UK or European map data pre installed within the units ie not on a memory card. The i3 & Nuvi range are two that I'm aware of.
This is good but when Garmin release V9 map data can these devices have the internal map data upgraded or not? |

Hi,
I was very confused. I bought my i3 a few weeks back and there was no memory card in the box. I had looked aroud the forums and people were talking about having the map on the card etc.
I then tried to upload soe POI's to the unit and the first time I tried it, it said something like 'Insufficient memory'. So, I went out and bought a 256mb Card. Plugged it into the unit, and then It let me upload the POI's.
I then took the card out and put it in my PC's card reader adn there was nothing on it.
Looks like the 'Insufficient memory' was just an initial glitch. So, I now have a 256mb MicroSD card that isn't used for anything
So, My unit must have onboard memory for maps, that the older unit's didn't have.
I'm must be able to update the Internal map, even if it's via the Card? _________________ Nuvi 660, VW GOLF

I think the best thing for you to do is ask Garmin. Just got to their site and ask 'Tech Support'. Let us know!
I should think they can, otherwise people would get a tad annoyed at having to buy a whole new system every other 'update' period or so, wouldn't they? I certainly would, and I'd try to find a system that allowed me to get updated maps the next time I bought!!! |
