I recently dowloaded the English .wav files from the CheckPOInt website to use with this add-on to warn me of up and coming safety cameras. However, it's a bit annoying having an slightly muffled and bored sounding American woman interupt the splendor and crispness of TTN2's English rose!

Does anyone have any ideas on where I can get better sound files for this purpose? Ones preferably in an English accent and certainly of a better quality. Sound files matching the TTN2 ones would be ideal obviously even though that's unlikely. Has anyone tried modern voice synthesis software to create these .wav files?

There is an English voice on the drop down menu of that demo Dave if you didn't know. Being from Newcastle myself I can do the Geordie version if you really want it!

It creates, amongst others, .wav files for PC use. Just input the text and play the resulting speech in Media Player and then save it. The file can then be syncronised with your PDA and used in your preferred satnav software. Not sure what file types Navman prefers but the fact that it runs on the Pocket PC operating system means it should have no problem playing any Windows based sound file.

The voice in POI Warner is in a strong German accent and authoratitive. " Slow down, you are breaking the speed limit" Reminds me of the guards in Colditz.

I have a couple of .wav files that I use for camera alert...
They are just morse code sounds but are very effective.
The first warning is -.- -.- (da-di-da da-di-da)
The final warning is ...... (dit dit dit dit dit dit)

If you would like a copy of these files, go to my website
www.stickledown.co.uk
double click on the wave.zip file at the bottom left of the page and the file should auto download for you.

I created a load of audio files using an American voice because it was clearer than the UK voices and less robotic. Download them from my POI page here: http://www.geocities.com/garygfx/

I thought about getting the wife to record the phrases but it will only sound like nagging and I usually ignore that. Wink

I use JMK's morse code files :

-.- -.- at 20 secs before the camera
........ at 10 secs before the camera

They are crystal clear, even if the car radio is on or passengers are talking. Furthermore, the sounds are different from anything else I have in the car, so they really stand out from the background noise :D

I was searching about earlier and found these two quite good

This one at 30 secs
http://www.barbneal.com/wav/uncat/robot01.wav

and this one at 10 secs
http://www.barbneal.com/wav/uncat/rarn.wav

Though I found that when the last one was played back through the IPAQ that it only made one siren noise and not lots Sad (as winamp auto loops it Sad)

So will look at the above links for a replacement :D

Excellent piece of kit this and will be adding lots and lots of red light cameras to the database when ive finished playing and work out :D
