Hi, I have an Inforad and I'm quite happy with it. But I've just seen the Talex lite on sale for the same price as I paid for the Inforad. Since it displays current speed and speaks to you, I quite fancied one.

Anyone tried both and can comment?

The Inforad can be used as a GPS with a laptop, no idea about the Talex....

Tnx, Nik

Yesterday I bought a Talex Lite from Somerfields in Buxton for £40!
Seems pretty good so far and I believe it can be linked to a laptop or PDA with appropriate satnav software.

To date I've always used the pocketgps database on a Medion (Mitac Mio clone) and been very happy with it but for 40 quid it seemed too much of a bargain to pass up.

I'll run them both alongside each other.

I haven't tried the Inforad though.

Ian.

£40? That's cheap. Anyone know of anywhere still selling these at this price?

I reviewed the Talex back in April last year, see here and liked it. It's a capable system and has NMEA Serial out which is useful.

The crucial aspect of all the SCD's is their database quality and Talex's was as good as any.

If I get a chance, I'll check (& post on this thread) if Somerfield have any left (I suspect it's unlikely).
So far I'm pleased with it, though if I'm being critical, the update software/routine is a bit on the clunky, amateurish side. On the plus side the unit is incredibly quick to lock onto satellites and makes me wonder why the mitac mio 168 takes so long.

Ian, I managed to buy a Talex Lite lastnight at a local Somerfields for £29.99 Smile

Initial impressions are great. I've owned many different gps speed camera locators and have had massively different results. So far the Talex is right up there with the better of the units i've owned which cost £380. The warnings are clear, the gps speedo is fast at updating and the sat lock is incredibly quick.

Thanks for the post advising of where these can be bought.
