Is the Kirrio reciever in this bundle made so it will only work with the included software? Basically... it comes in a package with the Michelin/mapsonic software but can anyone see any reason why I coudln't install something like tomtom and use that instead?

Because i've tried downloading some GPS freeware apps for my pocket pc, but as soon as I stop running viaMich/mapsonic and run another GPS program, the reciever cant be found (the little blue light goes out). I have checked all the settings within the programs, com port, baud rate etc and matched them to those found in my mapsonic software so I know thats not the problem.

I really want to know if this is likely to work before I go and (potentially) waste a load of money on getting tomtom.

Any replies much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Sorry to tell you, I spent days trying to get it sorted and was basically told to sod of by michelin.

The cradle is designed to work with the michelin software and nothing else! Kirrio just so happens to be french (even though the book says SA) They arent interested in helping out, tomtom tried but eventually said there was nothing more they could do to help me.

Basically you are stuck with the software that came with it! If like me you buy TT5 you will have to revert to using a different gps reciever. Luckily i had one from old and managed to get a tt car kit cradle off ebay for £13.00.

Dont look quite as sexy as the kirrio setup but at least it works!
