I am planning to buy one of these for Sea Kayaking in the next week or so.

Can anyone who has one check to see what the file structure is like on the microSD card if you mount it in a card reader on a computer or palmtop - can you easily identify the 'active log' for example?

If so - can the log be 'read' or manipulated by standard PC software?

This would be useful for storing tracks at the end of the trip and save me having to buy an expensive cable to link the Cx to my Palm!

Thanks,

Keith

I use a number of different applications to download and save my tracks. The most used for me are Memory-Map (local application) and www.MotionBased.com (online) these allow a certain amount of analysis as well as just saving the data.

Mike, I read your review with great interest.
In light to the "tad expensive" price, is there any reason not to get a US model for use in the UK? I understand the base map will be US, but I plan to buy UK Topo anyway.

Well Garmin provide a worldwide guarantee, so as long as you are happy with a US basemap then you are OK. Interestingly on my review sample I seem to have a World basemap. So both the US and Europe are covered. Only the major roads are shown though...

The only problem you may have is that of storage space. I havent done a full analysis but the City Select street maps take up a lot less room than the Topo Maps for the same region. You can of course have Detailed mapping of various areas with the Basmap filling in the gaps.

Is there any way of changing the map display background colour on a 60 Cx? I have just bought one, and the map background (with mapsource V8 downloaded maps) is a salmon colour with red/pink roads - not ideal. Changing the daytime colour scheme seems to have no effect on the map itself.

Thanks,

Suuunto

I just got one of the 60Cx units from the US by way of e-bay and I am delighted with it. It has the US basemap but I've installed MetroGuide Europe and with these maps, the unit is fantastic. Using third party software, the MG maps can me made to Autoroute, saving the cost of City Navigator software. The speed camera database works perfectly with custom icons too so all in all I'm absolutely chuffed! Reception is so much better than with my old Legend.

So all in all, I'm very pleased with it.

Have you seen the screenshot of the 'Zonned' database on the 60cx/csx?

Strumble,

The screen shot shows the map with a yellow background, which is a much better contrast to the salmon colour one I have with Metroguide Europe downloaded. Is the screen shot of a City Select map?

Spynappels,

Which third party software do you use to get the Cx to autoroute using metroguide. My old legend used to make an attempt at downloading an autoroutre from the PC (albeit with just a few waypoints) but my Cx just gives me a straight line.

CityNavigator Europe v8-The colour is just the product of the screenshot reproduced!! My wife tells me that the unit colour is as you say 'salmon colour'!

MetroGuide when 'manipulated' with sendmap will give full autorouting ie the pink line goes around the roundabouts!!

Strumble,

Many thanks for that. I will now go away and have a play with Sendmap.

Suuunto, have a look at www.geodude.nl as well. This is the software I use and it is great as well as being free! Try and see which works best for\you and run with it.
