Having recently purchased a Dell Axim Performance, a Holux bundle and then a GPSAssist programme, I thought I would have no troubles in getting started as I have used PCs on an amateur basis for over 20 years.

I now find with GPS Assist ( & some other programmes) that I cannot get started. When I tap the programme on the Axim, I get the message (under a heading of file://\windows\evbruntime.htm):-

"The application ----- requires Microsoft Embedded Visual Runtime to be installed etc etc etc"

I have downloaded onto my PC desktop the MS programme vbrun60sp5. On the desktop I am asked whether I want the programme to be installed. On clicking "Yes" the program is installed somewhere but not on the Axim which is synchronised at that time.

What am I doing wrong. I obviously need education on the finer points of programme installation onto a Pocket PC!!

What you need to do is go to this site:

Microsoft eVB runtimes

and follow the instructions there. Sounds like what you've downloaded is the runtimes for 'normal' Visual BASIC, not eVB, which is why they're installing on the desktop instead of the PDA.

Thanks Trafcam. I am pretty sure that that is what I have already done with the result as above. I will try your suggestion again but am coming to think by problem is one of ignorance of running ActiveSync.
