My wife bought a Garmin StreetPilot i3 for £99 in Somerfield today.

Is there a proper User Manual (and not just a Quick Start guide) available for this device? There doesn't appear to be one in the box, nor on the USB driver CD in the box nor on the Garmin website.

I'm quite familiar with GPS devices, having owned a few, but it's not exactly obvious what "Safe Mode" means, what an "Attention Tone" is, or how to delete an incorrectly entered Favourite, etc.

Oops!!

Had another look at the Garmin website, and found this: http://www.garmin.com/manuals/917_OwnersManual.pdf

Seems strange that there is no mention of this in the packaging. How many users (especially those who are not computer literate or gadget freaks) will end up using only a fraction of the capability of the i3 because of a lack of documentation - or even return it to the shop because they cannot use it?

aye, but they're cheap over here - maybe because they saved so much by not supplying cd's with the first batch or any manuals with any batches?! Laughing Out Loud!

All of mine from Somerfield (family and friends now fully kitted out) had a full complement of instructions and the USB CD. I'll bet that they took everything out of the box to leave it on display without having something juicy for the shoplifters and promptly lost the blurb.

In addition to the manual Garmin make all of the software that you need available from their website.

You need the USB Drivers, WebUpdater and POI Loader.

* Don't worry about downloading the Unit Software directly from the page (WebUpdater will look after it all for you) but do use it to check whether they have updated it beyond your current version.

You can download the Speed Cameras through the link at the top right of the page. MaFt also has useful POIs through the link on his signature. You can back up your favourites using EasyGPS.

EasyGPS just talks direct to the i3 over its USB link Smile
