Hey guys,

I'm totally new to GPS and have just bought a NAVMAN -icn 635.

First impressions good, i like the layout and I like the maps and they way they are laid out.

I have, however, over the past few days noticed a few funny bugs. One bug was the navigator telling me to take the first right even though it was showing to pass the turning and go for the second right - anyone encountered this before?

The postcode search i've found to be a good bit inaccurate. There have been times ive put in a valid postcode then looked for a street under that postcode and its turned up nothing. remove the post code and look for the street and it finds it - is this a common problem - are there any patches to fix this? Is it fixed in the 2005 version of the software?

Ive noticed a couple of times there have been streets -totally missnamed. Is this common. I'm wondering if its possible to rename them urself?

Apart from that it is a fantastic little gadget. I'm looking foward to getting more and more accustomed to it. I'm just wondering if there any solutions to the above issues.

And..does anyone know why ICN 635 isn't shown anymore by navman on their site?

oh and... what are the feature differences in 2005 software compared to V3?

Cheers guys,

Apologies for all the questions,
Chris :D

Welcome to the world of ICN creaaase. I hope you have great use from your Navman.
I have a Navman ICN610 - and I bought the SmartST V3.5 upgrade and new maps. The difference for me was the ability to set Home address, and changes to the alpha keyboard layout. (Strangely alphabetical now and not Qwerty!) The maps were updated - but you'll probably read on here how long it takes to correct mapping problems - apparently the mapping people have to send out a unit to resurvey the road completely - I think it generally takes two years.

I think there will always be some inaccuracies with roundabouts - I have one in Peterborough where the unit seems to think that the first turning is pedestrianised and therefore to go straight, it tells you to take the first exit. I generally have the junction and the small map shown for clarification.

If you want to PM me with some of the road names and postcode errors, I'll check them on my unit which has the last update and I'll tell you what the map now says.

I too have a 635 with both V3 and 2005.

When you are told to take the first right but the map shows it to be the second, have a look at the first road and see if there is, for instance, a one-way arrow on it.

I haven't really tried the new postcode search in the 2005 version but ifyou give me a couple of examples, I can look for you.

The misnaming of roads is down to TeleAtlas, the data supplier. It isn't possible to correct them yourself, but you can report them to TeleAtlas here. You wil need to have popups enabled.

The 635, along with the rest of the 6xx range, has been discontinued by Navman. The iCN550 is the new flagship model.
