Good news it may be but it doesn't excuse bad manners. As I was visiting Holland last week and staying about 30kms from them I e-mailed Carcomm to ask if it would be OK if I called to see them - no reply. Result: they've lost a customer.

Thats ashame!

But I assume they are really busy and dont get time to answer all emails quickly - I know I have that same problem sometimes!

Dont let that put you off though, as their products are really good.

Very unusual, Bas has always replied to emails from me and others who I have recommended Carcomm to speedily and courteously.

I can't explain the lack of response in your case but would stress that this is unusual and not a reflection of his normal method of operation.

His loss, not mine. It was the last of a whole string of frustrations while I've been hunting for the type of car mount I want to purchase.
Before the end of March I decided on a particular Swedish car clip and mount. I e-mailed a UK retailer who has them advertised on their web site; no reply. I contacted Sweden to ask if I could buy direct: No, I should contact the UK distributor who in turn put me in touch with another retailer who didn't have stock and referred me to the one who didn't reply. Back to the distributor who was willing to help but has to order the clip and the mount as neither are stock items. So I decided on Carcomm who didn't have a UK outlet at the time.
Oh, and there's the other on-line GPS retailer who hasn't acknowledged receipt of goods sent back by Special Delivery on 23rd March or responded to my e-mail.
It seems the malaise has spread far and wide....

I have looked at Seidio, RAM mount systems, and others. They all have great points. What I found is that none offer a simple and cheap solution to my need. I keep my iPaq always in a case and don't want to take it out each time I install it in the car; there is a lot of chance of dropping it thus exposing the iPaq to impact. I offer here an alternative solution to the mounting of PDA in the car. Hopefully you can use it.

I bought Rhinoskin for my iPaq case. It comes with a belt clip system, which consists of a belt clip and a round button that snap into it. It's the same as that of a cell phone. I also found that there are many aftermarket belt clip that, for the most part, is compatible with one or another. So I bought an extra clip that doesn't have a belt clip in the back. I use double-sided tape to secure that part to the dash. Then I clip my Rhinoskin to it. Voila, the iPaq is mounted securely to my car. Buy a clip for each car, and you don't have to fuss with moving the mount system.

The iPaq comes with a power adapter. Plug the adapter to the PDA and connect to power (12V plug), and you got power to your PDA. If you want to power your BT GPS at the same time, buy an aftermarket plug that has dual pig tails for powering PDA and GPS.

The whole project cost is about $38, which includes the Rhinoskin and the adapter that power PDA and GPS. It will cost around $30 for the case only if you don't need to power the GPS.

Cheers.
