We are following the thread and trying to digest the many and varied suggestions. Whilst in an ideal world I would reply to every post, clearly this is impossible here and the personal nature of some posts does not always encourage reasoned debate.

One option is to offer everyone who has submitted locations in the past free access which allows us to draw a line in the sand so to speak and reward those who assisted in building the database to what it is now.

Another possibility going forward is to reward submissions of new sites with free access etc for new contributors.

Payment methods are also something we are looking at in order to make access as easy as possible and allow subscribers the maximum amount of options.

Christmas is nearly upon us, I for one would like to sit back and enjoy this time with my family as outside of PocketGPS I work 60hrs a week running my own business not counting the time devoted here.

All constructive comments are welcomed, the thread will remain but I would repeat my earlier request that we keep it above board and in the spirit of the time of year cease the unwarranted personal attacks.

The January update will be released as planned free of charge and we will open a new thread with the options we propose as a result of the comments here sometime after Christmas.

All seems fair enough to me to be honest! Smile , perhaps i'm just to easily pleased or something?? Laughing

It would seem fairest to supply a free period (say 3 - 6 months) for those who have only ever submitted once and perhaps a year more free for those who have submitted multiple reports.

That clears the decks and we can draw a line in the sand. We would then make it crystal clear that from a certain date the database will be charged for.

We have records of every submission and so this could be achieved albeit with a fair amount of admin.

Again that seems a very fair idea. I just hope you can get something sorted out where the rest of us can pay yearly now rather than per download? 8)

Ah yes, I remember it well son, it was long before your time, you're only a newbie, a mere blow in, but way back in the day, when there was a real community spirit about the place, the database used to be free once...

As you are so keen on openness, can you tell me if you have ever submitted data to our database?

Darren, can I suggest you trawl thru your logs, and you tell me. If there are only 700 people on the blog it should be fairly easy.

it might be useful information to know that out of the entire safety camere database userbase, less than 700 users have ever contributed more than once which is an interesting point in itself.

You use this fact as if it in some way undermines the interest of the rest of the PGPSW community, or the forum members.

All those who have contributed, all 700 of you, raise our hands, we select 700 have valid points to make, (but if you keep our mouths shut we can have free access.)

The rest of you should just go away!!!, is that the best argument you have come up with to date !!!

At no point in the past has there every before existed an "all aminals are equal, but some are moe equal that others" attitude at PGPSW that I can recall.

Is this honestly something what you want to foster right at this point in time.

What we need, is a formal response. Not from a moderator who is hot under the collar, not to a few select point, or as a rebuke to an individual like me who has now doubt touched a few nerves.

We need a considered response, collectively, from all the directors, including the ever quiet MikeB, and folks, we need it now.

You guys have planned this for a while, debated over it, and had 4 days to get a feel for the feedback. At this point we the disgruntled community are going around in circles, saying the same thing, because short of going silent and admitting it's a done deal we have nothing else to do. It's very hard to have an open discussion when nobdoy is officially talking back.

This is not a situation where we want to present a petition, and receive a decision. We're not submitting an apeal to a higher authority that we are bound to respect and uphold.

We would like somebody to open the door, and TALK TO US.

You need to adjust your time preferences in your profile to GMT -1 Smile

This WILL be an option but it may require payment via PayPal or Cheque/ PO etc, I don't claim to fully understand why but Merchant Service providers do not like annual subs payments for small amounts as they preceive there is a higher risk in relation to charge backs, nowt we can do about that I'm afraid.

Similarly, the costs for collection are a significant proportion of the total amount when dealing in such low numbers which is why we settled on £2 rather than £1. A £1 payment via PayPal sees almost 1/3 going to them.

Oh, and I did miss that, subtle, the "our" database.

See, it's a done deal. What are we all talking about this for.

Paypal is fine for me, but i see from this forum a lot of people dont trust Paypal (i can understand that view reading various reviews and comments about Paypal on the net), cheque & postal order options will help other people as well i guess?

There is a common complaint that those who have contributed data feel agrieved that we might charge them to download. If we grant them free access then that has got to go some way to alleviating those concerns?

As a Director I am posting on behalf of the team. I have asked for time to reflect and compose a response but instead as soon as I make a post there are more!

I'm not a web server expert but if you do change to GMT -1 the problem will be resolved! I guess we need to get the server hosts to sort the time out!

I am now off to relax with my family so let's not begin accusing me of ignoring posts now ;)

Hmmm how are confident are you of your records???

See my post on the forum from sept 2003:

"I emailed some camera location info on the 12 of May and received 4 "read" notifications and 1 "deleted unread" notification! Do I need to resend?

Answer:
"I'm checking with Duncan. I know there's a bug in Outlook where if a message is not read and you move it to an external PST folder this can send a deleted not read, and this maybe what's happened."

How many locations submissions do I show under my username??

What are the thoughts from those who have submitted data in the past if we were to grant them free access?

As long as it was in perpitutity not some ramdon length of time.

This sounds like a good way forward how ever I do suggest you speak to those that have contributed directly ( may be a hidden thred ? ) so see if they agree.

My self I would be happy to pay the £2 on the basis that those that contribute / contributed are rewarded for the time that they took.
