I recognise that dashboard - looks like a Vauxhall Zafira (apparently an Elegance as it has the trip computer, with the optional CD changer and seemingly is a dual-fuel option as I can see the LPG / petrol changeover switch on the dash).

I'll try to take some pictures of my Zafira based setup for comparison. I couldn't use the mounting position David did, as on my car that's already occupied by the phone. As a result, my Brodit mount is on the vent. I find if I turn the large vent that the Brodit mount is over to the passenger side, and the small one below it to the driver's side (the opposite of what Vauxhall intended), things work out pretty well.

It would be very easy for David to wire a slave cigarette lighter socket behind the dash - either using the VDA carphone connector, or wiring to the back of the existing cigarette lighter. There's loads of room in there. Hopefully pictures of my setup will illustrate this rather better, particularly if I get out my screwdrivers and take the dash apart again...
