Hi
I have an iFINDER GO. It is relatively inexpensive and very accurate. Unfortunately I live in Europe and the maps are largely American.
I bought a PC cable but I have no information as to what or how to download software to the iFINDER GO.
I have emailed Lowrance help desk but no reply so far.
There seems to be many undocumented features and I managed to crash the software when experimenting. Taking out the batteries and starting again sorted it out.
Since it is NMEA compatible, can I use it as an input to a PC?
If this is the case, could I use the PC as plotter for my next holiday sailing round the Greek Islands?
How should I set up the GPS grid? (GPS was not on the syllabus when I took my Yachtmasters exam so I am quite unfamiliar with satellite navigation)

It is a little late for the reply but we have only just looked into the iFinder range.
Yes you can output NMEA to a PC for navigation purpose. Since you already had a cable so you should have already found out.
We have started making cables for this so you can connect to most PDAs.
The Go has plenty features and good performance for the price (less the US$80). Many prospective buyers were put off by the lack of PC connectivity as Lowrance offered no PC cable officially and seemed to discourage users doing so. Moreover, Lowrance PC cables are by far more expensive than other makes and up to now no 3rd party cables are available.
But yes you can connect to PC with the Lowrance iFinder cable, at least for navigation software using NMEA input. It is doubtful wheter you can transfer data to/from the GPS/PC but it may be possible with suitable software.

Thanks for the reply. We had a splendid sailing holiday.
I figured out how to use the iFINDER GO and found it to be very accurate. I ventured to use it on the second day of our sailing holiday and found that navigation was an absolute dream. It was terrific to just sail instead of toiling over charts. I am enthused to learn all of its secrets. |

Hi Joker
I'd be very interested to find out more. I've got a DSC VHF in the boat but no GPS yet. I'm considering the iFinder Go but am not sure whether it gives the correct NMEA signal for DSC sets. Is this somthing you've tried? |

I suspect that it does give NMEA output - at least I thought I read that in the blurb. I have not tried it yet since I do not have any equipment yet which accepts NMEA input. You could download the documents from the manufacturers website - you would find them useful anyway if you were to buy an IfinderGo.
I am very happy with the unit. |
