Excellent work guys. When will the masses be able to update the maps and change the firmware? I am sure it won't be long before all can be done thanks to some people here.

To add to Ash's instructions I have created this comprehensive guide to using the utilities:

http://209.245.59.252/Gimme/25169423/309216949/98120280/AEFD38CE-A033-4102-881C-E74D11521090/0.827488/2/Garmin_Street_Pilot_i3_Voice_Changing.doc

It's only hosted on some free space but should be good for 200 downloads.

I will convert to a PDF doc tomorrow if you think it's any good. Maybe MaFt could host the utilities and guide?

Apologies if any of it is egg sucking but I'm sure questions will be plenty once this is used by masses.

Next? Complete ready done replacement VPM files?

Enjoy, once again top work Ash.

If my link doesn't work PM me your email addy and I'll send you the word doc. Any questions about the use of this keep to the forum. :D

Nice work above. Is it possible to do any of this on a new i3 with 'in-built' memory?

http://www.frontiernet.net/~dffynst/sounds.html

This where I got the "Awwww C**p" file from..... As yet I haven't got a complete voice file but I'm working on it. To get every word... right, left.... etc. takes a while of recording episodes on dvd then extracting audio etc.

Does anybody have any links to Tom Tom voice files as it maybe easier to have a look at the format of those and convert them for i3's?

I have downloaded some tom tom voices and the file has a .chk (1081kb) extension. Is there a utility I can use to access the contents of this file. If anybody wants the file to do some work on let me know.

If its a navigation voice it will be dataXX.chk (where XX is a number between 01 to 99) in this case search and download viftool.exe this application can be used to split and build the nav voice file.
If its a camera warning voice i.e. data.chk (no number) then use POIExtend to split the file into its individual .ogg files - Mike

It is dataxx.chk. Will I have to change extension to .vif or will viftool recognise the .chk extension ?

Have a full read of http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=38752&highlight=viftool+exe this has some instructions on using viftool - you leave the file as a .chk - Pay attention to Ray Flans entry as that shows some screen captures of the software in use - Mike

Thanks Mike
Managed to open the Tom Tom files and convert them to wav files. It seems that where I3 uses single words eg. at-roundabout-take-second-exit, the tom tom uses one string of words for each command. I did edit a couple but it would be a long job to edit all the commands down to single words. Still I have now got an I3 that says "computer says no" (little britain style) instead of recalculating.
