I live in the country and I am looking for some (preferably FREEWare) software which works in a similar way to the Magellan Hand-held GPS units whereby I can - basically - be in the middle of a field, moor or (open-top) wood and set a POI/GPS Position which I can later use the software to navigate to.

I have tried using TomTom 5.10 but if I set a GPS Position away from a road, TomTom will not record the POI as it records it against Road Names.

I am looking for software which will record the position and use a pointer/needle to point in the direction of the POI/GPS Position so I can walk to its location.

Does anybody know where I can obtain any such software?

I am using a PDA with a built in receiver so it would have to be compatible with this.

I would REALLY appreciate any help or guidance anybody could offer me.

Thank you. Wink

that's not really possible. You have to make a decision between street navigation software (which can navigate, but only on streets) and topographical software (which can work in the woods, but cannot navigate).

Having said that, Mapopolis has some rudimentary bearing/heading feature that you can use to get guided back to that location.

There are a number of freeware positioning tools around, but they normally do not display any maps. Not sure if this is sufficient for you.
