Well i think i found out why my map is so lagging while driving about, if i install the 102mb uk map onto my own mmc card it installs quite quick, about 8 - 10 mins. But when i install the same onto the sd-502 memory it takes nearly 30 mins !!

That may explain why i suffer sluggish map updates while driving about ?

Unless i can cure this i think i may have to send back the unit, oh well...

thanks for your help guys but no joy, got a replacement sent and it didn't work either, so I'm giving up for the time being maybe get a Bluetooth device later. You never know it may be my phone but from what I can see the SD-502 is NOT compatible with the T-mobile MDA compact (imate-JAM). I did a hard reset of my device and tested with no tom tom software so this wouldnt have interfered, no satellite data was reported with globalsats own software (gpsinfo) even though the device was flashing blue to show it was communicating with the sattelites.

When you installed the SD-502 device driver and re-booted the PPC do you have a directory called GPSDisk Card showing. This is the new SD storage card.
If this is not showing on your PPC then you won't be able to use the SD-502. This is where the incompatibility is with certain devices.

You won't see a directory called Storage Card, only if you have an SD card installed.
The SD-502 device driver will create a new one called GPSDisk Card.
If it doesn't do this then your device is incompatible.
I would suggest you return it and perhaps exchange it for a BT GPS unit.

The new driver doesnt work with either the Orange SPV M500 (TMobile MDA etc) or the O2 XDA Exec.

Globalsat R&D are currently working on the driver for these devices, but no release date is mentioned.

Hi

Can someone help?

I bought a SD-502 from PDAMODS before christmas for my girlfriend's rz1710 after first being assured it was compatible.

After installing the software that was on the CD, and then downloading and installing an updated driver (not sure whether this is 1.32 or 1.33 - need to check) when the card is inserted it keeps coming up with a "card not recognized" message! The GPS card does not show on the directory either. I have had next no help from PDAMODS their technical support function is absolutely useless.

Does anyone have any suggestions??? Sad

I had the same problem with my rz1710. Download the latest driver v1.33 from http://www.globalsat.com.tw. Copy the zip file to your rz1710. Tap once and it will install. It works after that! Hooray!

Thanks - just checked into the forum to see whether I'd had a reply.

I downloaded 1.33 and clicked on the zip file within the PDA and it seemed to install ok but still no joy. I even tried soft resetted and it was still coming up with the same error message "card not recognised". I think I'm going mad - the only thing I think of is that something on the PDA is conflicting, but can't think what it is. There is only the bog basic PDA software and TomTom and that's it! Any ideas??? Question

I got the GPS part working with my rz1710. However, when I try to upload maps to the onboard 512MB memory, I keep getting "error writing file". If I adjust the module slightly, some files will write to the memory. After some time, I will get "error writing file" again. It seems to me that the contact points between the SD module and my rz1710 is bad. I tried with another SD card, I have no problems! I will ask for a replacement. If the result is still the same, I will have to return the unit.

Hello everybody (as it is the first time for me). I am also getting a bit frustrated about my SD 502. I am trying it with Xda II mini. I also try hundreds of times installing the drives and program. It does not recognize the COM port. I got even more confused when I received a message from the support from Taiwan saying that Xda II mini is not compatible with SD 502, while on the USA Globalsat web (http://www.usglobalsat.com/item.asp?itemid=17&catid=) the Xda II mini is listed as compatible Confused . Has anybody try to work with SD 502 and Xda II mini? :D
