Weatherproof cases

Hi,

I was wondering if any of you guys use any weatherproof covers/casess on you GPS's. I've looked at the Aqua Boxes from Ram, but they don't seem to have one that will fit the iCN 510 in.

Anybody got any recomenations Question

You could have a look at Otter boxes they do various sizes and they are totaly waterproof

I use a freezer bag with a rubber band (on a Garmin i3). It's crude but I can use the buttons, it's clear enough to see through and it's stood up to rain, cold and freezing fog so far. I use a new bag each time but at a few pence each, it's pretty cheap.

Have a look at an aquapac www.aquaman.co.uk/. Bit more upmarket than a freezer bag and a lot cheaper and less bulky than an Otterbox.

Incidentally how how do you plan to mount the Navman to the bike?

I've a 520 and was thinking of using the RAM arm and the RAM Universal PDA holder 3. But, I'm not sure whether the 520 will fit the RAM holder.

I have a Vespa GTS 250 ie.
I have a Tomtom One XL.

I have a permanent connection, fused lead, from the bike's battery to the inside of the glovebox, where the rubber capped female socket sits. This allows me to keep the battery charged up throughout the winter by simply plugging the Optimate III plug into the female socket.

Optimate/Accumate have just brought out a proper sized Cigar Socket Attachment that does accept all GPS, MP3, Tyre Air Compressors etc., just like the car cigar socket.

This will allow me to plug the TT1 Car Cigar Plug into the female socket inside the bike's glove box.

Therefore, all I need is a safe mounting station on the bike's handlebars behind the sports screen. I too will use the aquapak, because a friend in Manchester uses hers for the same purpose on her Piaggio X8. Bluetooth will be used listening in.

The TomTom One XL is mainly for the car, but once the weather warms up I'll be out on the bike for most of my journeys.

Any advice will be much appreciated. How and where to fit a bracket and where to buy one specifically for scooters.

By the way, when I bought the TT1 XL from easydevices, it came with speed cameras already loaded. But, once I downloaded updates, a few months later, from TomTom Home, the speed cameras vanished. The downloads removed existing items from my TT Home database before giving new ones.

Do I pay TomTom for a yearly subscription for their speed camera files or pay GPSW for their comprehensive downloads? I think I just answered my question.

Another point worth mentioning here is that I copied all of the TT1 XL details from the original SD card onto a 1Gb Play.com card, which works perfectly. I keep the original SD card in the box for safety.

Thanks Mike, I think that the lack of a headphone socket in the TT1XL is rather lax of TT. My ols MIO PDA has one and it gives me the option. But the TT1? No such luck. Once I read your reply about Bluetooth, I remembered that it is not for audio use.
I'll look at maps, remember road numbers, and have the TT1 available for when I'm stuck.

I use a media bag from Nippy Normans, you also need the mounting plate then can use standard ram mounts with it so you don't need to buy the multipod, works great. Use it with my TT One original.

Nippy Norman's media bag's an expensive way to go, too dear for me anyway!

For a similar, but much cheaper item, try Googling 'Aloksak'. They're inexpensive reusable waterproof/dustproof/airtight zip bags that do the job very well indeed. They're available from camping and military suppliers.
