You can use an application called xImage which you can get from here to download the splash screen and other screen shots.

You can also change the splash screen and upload it back to the i3. Here is one that I did earlier. Smile

Not very imaginative but it illustrates the point.

Can you not do a hard (FULL) reset of the Garmin then, as that would clear all loaded data and images, so would not help if stolen.

Hi,

This is brilliant.

I just setup the boot screen to have my name/address/phone. First try went wrong, remember to leave a gap at the bottom for the copyright message and routable map mention to scroll at the start.

Also, this image survived a hard reset and a new download of the firmware. I think it's there for good now.

Warning - remember to save the old splash screen safely

Lucy

I don't think a hard reset would replace the original splash screen (although I'm not about to try Rolling Eyes ) because it overwrites the existing one.

However, I guess the baddies could download the screen (if they've read this forum), modify it and re-upload it.

I don't think the baddies are that well organised.

Most petty crime like this is done to fuel habits.

And for that matter, I don't think the punter, buying a an iffy sat nav down at the local boozer really gives a stuff, either.

May make it less easy to pass on - 'cos perhaps not every punter would be quite so happy, but I don't think it'll deter them from being stolen, and I don't think people stealing this kind of thing will care that much about resolving it.

I guess you could say it makes it more likely you'll get it back - but would you want it back after that?

And you can even get screen shots, so for people having problems, assuming you can get it connected to your PC, you can post screen shots on here!!

Thanks for that tip. I've added my picture, name, address and tel no to mine. X-image says device couldn't be found after uploading - but it has worked - so don't panic if you see that.

Hi
not sure if putting your address is a good idea, but i might be overcautious but if it has been stolen it gives the thief your home address and might invite him round to take more goods.
i think i would just put name and email plus work address if i wanted an address.

Considering that any thief can turn the unit on, press Home and the Garmin will take you straight there anyway I doubt if it matters that you have your address on the front screen.

I thought this might be a start regarding which maps are available.
