Hi,

New to this forum.

I have an XDA on Vodaphone here in the UK

I am looking for a GPS for it?

Mainly for in car use but would be nice to take it out an about in the outdoors from time to time.

I would prefere a more Ordance Survey type view (map) rather than a road atlas view, no point being up on the north downs with a road atlas view!!!

Can anyone suggest a suitable product?

Thanks

Mark

You shouldn't have too much of a problem with the XDA, the only thing you will have a problem with is being tied to the car. You won't be able to go out walking with the GPS, as the XDA only has an SD slot for storage and not CF slot. I'll include some links here to our reviews of the products I'll mention.

From an in-car perspective, Leadtek do a Leadtek 9531 and Leadtek 9532 which will connect to the bottom sync (serial) port of the XDA. Price wise these come in at around £110 for the GPS and cable, RoyalTek also have a cable set for their RoyalTek Sapphire (around £100 with cable) and Holux also have a cable for their Holux GM-210 Supermouse which comes in around £110.

You need to make sure you have atleast a 128mb storage card, 256mb would be preferable. From a software perspective, you can run TomTom Navigator 2, CoPilot Live or Destinator 2. Prices do differ.

If you're looking for customisable POI's (Points Of Interest) including Speed Cameras, then currently TomTom Navigator 2 and CoPilot Live are the only options around. There is a customised version of Destinator 2 by Kane (which we will be reviewing in the near future-Thanks to KaneGear), but I don't know how good this is at present.
