Many of you asked for an "idiot's guide to the TomTom Navigator installation for BT receivers when you want to run other programs, too", so now you have one. But it's not actually an idiot's guide, rather a smart way to work around TomTom's attempt at World Domination - therefore we call this a Smarties guide.

Lutz has created full step-by-step instructions which is available here.

Brilliant! I for one have been waiting for this. I've always eventually ended up being able to use both TT and in my case MM, but only after extensive trial and (mostly) error. One query though, I was under the impression that BTGPS 2.07 (my current version) was ok. Is this not now the case. Is it worth uninstalling 2.07 and installing 2.06?

If you have a working setup then don't touch anything.

But strictly speaking yes, version 2.07 turned out to have the same issues on some machines, so if you want to be absolutely sure you should go back to version 2.06

Lutz, in your guide you mention removing TomTom~GPS from remove programs once then soft reset and it re-appears.
Just tried that on my XDA2 with GPS 3.07 and it didn't remain after a reset. Is this because 3.07 is behaving correctly and not hijacking the BT stack?

Using XDA2i follow the article ok but after 1st removal confirm ok but it does not give the option to reinstall original so now left without BT.

You may already have done one "uninstall" earlier.

If you have a working setup where both TomTom and other programs can access the GPS receiver then you should not change that.

If you did the uninstall and now the GPS driver is completely gone then simply re-install it either from the CD or from our downloads link.

(And then you can do the uninstall again ;-) )

Sorry seemed to have confused you by being too brief.
Have XDA2i running win 2003SE, tomtom 3.01.
I can get bluetooth headset profile to work before installing tomtom, however after installing the dreaded tomtom the headset profile does not work.
The BT GPS does, so 50% there!
I follow your instructions and remove tomtom GPS, it removes ok I do not then get the message to reset pocket pc.
The headset does not work.
If I then install 2.06 the headset does not work.
is there a CAB file for just 3.01.
Or how else can I keep both BT working?

Thanks
John

You may have to go the long route - complete re-install of the PocketPC, Install of TomTom Navigator 3.07 via CAB file, install of TT GPSD 2.06 via CAB file. That's the only way you can make sure your BT stack is not messed around with.

Just re-installed 3.07
Then remove Program TomTom~GPS selected, remove.
Soft Reset.
Start, Settings, System. No GPS Icon
Start, Settings, System, Remove Programs. No TomTom~GPS

They must have changed the procedure then - I tested with 3.03 and it still needed two uninstalls.

Or maybe it is machine specific.

Anyhow - if you now install GPS 2.06 then you should be able to use both TomTom and other GPS programs.

GPS 3.07 doesn't hook into the Bluetooth stack on all machines, Lutz. For example, it doesn't seem to hook in on anything using the Broadcom 1.5.0, such as the latest iPAQs. It definitely doesn't hook into the Bluetooth stack on my hx4700.

The advice should be to do a single uninstall only if third party software can't access a Bluetooth GPS. If TomTom GPS hasn't hooked into the Bluetooth stack, a single uninstall removes TomTom GPS from the machine (solution: reinstall GPS 3.07!).

Thanks for that David, Lutz must have thought I was taking the ..
So XDA2 with the latest Rom doesn't get its BT stack hijacked by TomTom.
