I have bought a BT-338 from ebay - the seller states the unit to be

"PLEASE NOTE THAT OURS ARE THE UK VERSION WITH A 3 PIN PLUG (VERSION 3.1.1)

THEY ARE ALSO THE LATER VERSION WITHOUT THE STATIC NAVIGATION PROBLEM"

How do I know if the unit is actually the latest version? the sn of the unit is AAW020998, I thought the ones with ser no's up to 28000 were the old ones?

I can't get a fix with this unit 3 feet from a window (curtains closed) by the way with tomtom3 using nmea 0183v2 38400 (cant get it to use SIRF)

Thx, Paul.

You can use programs like SiRFDemo to switch the receiver to SiRF mode and query the firmware version (and switch static navigation off while you're at it). Don't forget to switch it back to NMEA though.

Judging by the serial number yours should be on the latest firmware.

Hi Paul,

At the Basingstoke meet, Privateer and I were asked to help update the firmware of GlobalSat BT-338 receivers. Although the serial number prefix AAW* is a good indicator of the firmware, we did actually find one that had that serial prefix but had firmware with a lower version number.

The only way to really check is as Lutz recommended and use the SiRFDemo utility.

Regards,

Bo Peep.

Hi Paul,

In general units with serial numbers between 00400 & 028000 without the AAW prefix were supplied with firmware version 3.0.2. Apart from that all other units should be version 3.1.1.

As Lutz and Bo Peep mentioned you can switch the receiver to sirf mode using SirfDemo and it will list the firmware version in this.
