Hi, just bought Garmin I3 - so novice.
Came without memory card and cd, but map is pre-loaded and I have downloaded POI loader from Garmin.
Have downloaded your database but when I try to use POI loader it cannot recognise any .csv files.
Which is the correct file to use for the overlay please and is it ok to load it straight onto the device without an external card
thanks very much

The correct way to install the csv files is to collect all the files you want into a single directory on the PC. You then connect the i3 to the USB cable and this should start the POI Loader.

All you need to do then is select the directory and off you go.

You should make sure that both the csv and bmp files are in the same directory.

MikeB, still can't understand why the files modified by MaFt are not incorporated into your database page. It is straight forward for Garmin users and includes the appropriate bmp files.

Basically it is a matter of time.

We are currently working on updating our entire POI systems, but as this has to be done in our spare time it is taking longer than we would like.

In the next few days there will be a specific Garmin POI Loader page. Hopefully this will make things easier for all our users.

OK guys this is beta quality so don't expect miracles.

Check out http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/garmin-poi-loader-speed-cameras.php and http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/garmin-poi-loader.php

I know there are no databases available in the POI section yet, but they will follow shortly. Also the instructions in the POI section refer to the Speed Cameras not POIs I will be updating this as well soon.

Thanks very much -all seems crystal clear -but still have glitch!
Although I have unzipped your download and can easily locate your .csv files -after I define the correct directory for the loader to load from; the Garmin POI loader comes up with an error insisting that there are no data files in that directory and asks to specify a directory with at least one .csv file.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled loader and the same still happens. Any ideas???
thanks again

This is strange. At least 2 other people have loaded the data successfully.

I am running version 2.40 software on the i3 and the latest POI Loader from the Garmin site.

Only just released, and I did realise that. I was just stating the test environment I was using.

Most people will be running 2.40 as it comes out of the box, so this is a valid test. I am going to be upgrading to 2.50 soon but need to get all my 2.4 testing done first. (any old excuse ay? It sounds good though)

Have you tried the Speed Cams with 2.50?

Thanks again MikeB and to all in pocket GPS team. I have downloaded the new database but was wondering whether anyone has confirmed that the camera icons are working OK.

I checked all the categories on mine anf they were working fine.

I dont like the way that the camera location is only shown on the map when you are over the limit. Before anyone asks I did not have my picture taken. The cameras were in some roadworks on the other side of the dual carriageway.

Thanks Mike, I think the idea behind this is that Garmin thought that having the icons displayed all the time would clutter the screen. Obviously from reading these forums not everyone agrees with Garmin's assumption.

If you use the expert mode and set a proximity warning then the POI icon will always be displayed.

My concern is where the speed is incorrect in the database at say 40 and the area is actually at 30MPH you wont see the icon or get the warning, but you could get a ticket.

Hopefully the majority of our cameras have the correct speed and those that dont have any or have the wrong speed are being updated constantly.

Successfuly loaded my i3 - the guide says it takes 20-30 seconds but mine took about 2 seconds from clicking OK to it reporting 'done' - and it works fine.

Noted one camera in Slough reports a 30mph zone when it is a 40 actually (the safe way round) - might account for the sign i3 displaying it as a ? sign rather than the speed limit sign that usualy comes up - I presume that whoever does the database got conflicting reports on the same camera?

Impressed.

Is it possible to tell the system to navigate to a custom POI if you add any - I'm not a GATSO tourist but if any of the other POIs are added it would be useful but not essential?
