How does the Haicom HI-203E compare?

Hi there - newbie here.



I am moving from a palm based system (m505 and NavMan500) to a power PC system - mainly because of the quality of the software available on the PowerPC platform.

I want to buy a "gps mouse" so I could use it with my laptop as well. I have found the Haicom HI-203E for a reasonable sum, can anyone comment on how it compares with Leadteks or the Realtek "GPS mice"?? The Car Powered GPS hardware reviews on this site are very usefull, but there isn't one for the HI-203E.

Unlike the Haicom HI-303MMF and the Leadtek 9532 (both of which are SiRF II based - the 303MMF is SiRFstar IIe/LP and I'm not sure precisely what the chipset in the 9532 is), the HI-203E is based around the Evermore GPS chipset.



By all accounts, the Evermore is a perfectly good chipset. From the documentation I can find, it's capable of supporting multiple datums (SiRF firmware 2.30 and above has a 'navigation library', but I can't find out about the functionality).



The Evermore chipset used in the HI-203E may or may not support SBAS (WAAS and EGNOS) - it depends on the exact Evermore chipset used, and I'm not aware of any tools that can manipulate SBAS settings on Evermore based GPSes. However, SBAS is not needed for street navigation and, in Europe at the moment, is only of academic interest anyway as EGNOS is not fully operational.





I'm happy enough with my HI-303MMF - but it's a rather different device to the HI-203E. You could look over the Haicom forum here to see if you can get any opinion from that.
