Hi actionman99,

Funnily enough, I was looking for exactly the same information yesterday, here’s what I found on the TomTom website:

TomTom support website wrote:
If you get the message 'No phones found' when trying to call a Point of Interest (POI) using TomTom NAVIGATOR 5, then your PDA does not have a build-in telephone function.

Only PDAs with a built-in telephone (like the MDA, XDA, QTEK or iPAQ 6340) can make use of this feature. Even though you can pair a mobile phone to your PDA via Bluetooth, the option 'call number' will not be supported.

You can still look up the phone number of a POI by using the 'browse map' option. Simply browse to the map until you have found the POI you were looking for and select the POI icon. You will then see the name as well as the phone number of this POI. Please note that contact information might not be available for every single POI.

You can see the actual explanation from TomTom here.

It’s rather annoying, as I’ve just started to update my own POIs with phone numbers. I wanted to test the changes and found that I couldn’t. So unless you have a TomTom GO 500 or 700, or you’re running TomTom Navigator for PocketPC on a MDA, XDA, QTEK or iPAQ 6340 then the call POI function won’t work.

Unless of course anybody knows how to overcome this problem … ;)

Regards,

I'm curious as to what you expected to happen without a PocketPC Phone Edition or a GO with Handsfree capabilities?

I suppose the ability to dial the number via Bluetooth, as you can with the option from the contacts menu.

Parky is spot on. I thought that if I have paired a Bluetooth phone with my PocketPC for TomTom Traffic, then surely I should be able to get the phone to dial the enabled POIs. I realise that I wouldn’t have hands free and that I wouldn’t be able to use my Bluetooth headset but that wasn’t the point – I just wanted to try it and I failed miserably! ;)

In my defence I should add that I use an XDAII or a P910i both of which are phones as well. I wasn't trying to be clever with my enquiry, I simply hadn't realised that you could initiate a call via Bluetooth on a connected mobile from certain apps.

Now that I know this is possible from PocketPC Contacts I can see why you would expect that functionality from the POI.

How bad is your day!

On an aside, I thought (here I go and make a berk of myself again!!) that WM2005 required persistent storage to be available in the hardware. I didn't think the XDAIIi had that?

And I bet hx4700 users are pi**ed, WM2005 delayed until Summer 06 for them, a nice way to treat your premium users!

I missed that! 8O When was that announced? Rolling Eyes

Yeah, great way to treat your premium users. By the time WM2005 (or should that be WM2006 Q4?) is released my hx4700s will be ancient and superseded.

HP WM2005 Announcement
Quote:
This offer will be made available in late Summer 2005 for the hx2000 series. Due to unforeseen extended delays in the availability of a critical 3rd party driver, the upgrade kit for the hx4700 will be available in Spring 2006.

Considering Summer 2005 is almost gone it's all looking rather bad!
