Hi all,I am a complete beginner,I have just purchased a Haicom HI 202E gps for my laptop.I am certain I have installed correctly, but I keep getting the message"there is no gps data coming from the selected port. The gps device has probably been disconnected"I am using a Toshiba satellite 3000-x4 with x-p.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,Paul

Presumably you've installed the driver. If so, can you see the USB to serial device amongst your COM ports in the Device Manager (look under Control Panel, System)? When you find that, that's the COM port number your GPS is on.

Hi David, yes I have checked the COM ports and it is on COM4,it just will not relay any info to my computer. There is power getting to it because the red light is flashing.

It sounds like most things are working, then - the USB chip must be recognised and there must be power to the GPS.

The default settings are almost certainly NMEA 0183 v2, 4800bps, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit. Is that what you have configured in your application?

If that doesn't get you going, you could try the PC version of WinFast Navigator, which you should find on Leadtek's site. I'm afraid I have no experience with it, but if it's anything like the Pocket PC version, it will allow you to 'find' the correct serial port speed and protocol for a SiRF based GPS such as your HI-202E.
