Heellllpppp! - Can anyone identify this GPS for me???

I have just bought this used and cannot get it to connect to my Ipaq 3970.
The synch/power lead is marked 39xx/37xx and it fits my 3970. The GPS receiver is in good cosmetic condition. The connection on the GPS is the PS 2 type.

I have used the "GPS Viewer" Freeware and "Winfast Navigator" but to no avail - they do not pick up the GPS. I am using Tom Tom ver 2.05.

Answers I guess I need are which settings to use it on for Tom Tom and which com port?

Thanks for the advice - I have tried that and it is not picked up in the GPS screen of Tom Tom.
There is a red led on the GPS mouse - so power is getting to that, and the IPaq is being charged as well.
Is there any other way to test the unit?

Try leaving the unit connected with a clean line of sight to the sky for anything upto two hours with the whole lot powered up - once its aligned itself to where it is it might work - Mike

You are plugging it in to 12v power aren't you ? The GPS mouse requires power to operate, apologies if this is onbvious but others have overlooked this!

Yes 12v! Am running it off a 12v car battery charger so I can sit inside, gps mouse is on the window sill. But I will try the 2hr wait tonight.....

If not .... can I power the gps mouse and test the other pins with a multi meter to get a voltage?? If so which pins are which??

You could check the GPS mouse power with a DVM, its normally 5V DC accross two of the pins (the voltage drop circuit to regulate the 5V from the 12V input is built into the lead), the other pins just carry binary data i.e. ones and zeros which you could only detect with a scope a DVM would be of little use - I've just had a look around to find the pin out of the PS2 type connector employed on the GPS mouse / most powered windscreen mounts have a coresponding socket but I can't locate it - it might be in the car - if I find the info will post later - Mike

Just one other thought that could b affecting the unit, try de-selecting "receive all beams" in the Settings, connections tab IRdA as this quite often ties up the com port when selected - Mike

So far tried all your recommendations with no success - looks as the though the GPS is b*****ed!
Will see if I can find someone with one to substitute it for and see if it works....
