The GlobalSat UK Distributor brings the latest GlobalSat SiRF III wired GPS receivers to the UK Marketplace.
GlobalSat have produced a pair of receivers with the new SiRF III chipsets, with different cable configurations to suit just about any wired GPS application.
At PocketGPSWorld.com we are putting both the devices through their paces. Darren has the USB version the BU-353 whilst I am looking at the normal cabled version the BR-355.
I remember being very enthusiastic about the original GlobalSat wired receiver the BR-305, but these new devices are an order of magnitude better. Our reviews will be available in the near future.

I was just wondering if the cable connector is the only difference between BR-355 and BU-353. I would guess that most users, just like me, want the option of connecting their GPS receiver to both PDA and laptop depending on the situation. Being forced to buy TWO separate GPS receivers seems like a very unflexible solution.
The Holux GR-213 Mouse Receiver has a mini-DIN connector and can be connected to either PDA or USB depending on which adaptor cable you buy. Very handy!
It would be very interesting to see a comparing test between these new Globalsat receivers and the GR-213. Maybe there are more mouse receivers with SiRF III to be included as well. I've read about a device called iTrek S3, but I don't know if it's out yet.

I think you will find that the iTrek S3 is a re-badged BR35*

Except for the issues I've described in this thread I'm very pleased with it. The downsides I've discovered seem to be more related to the limitations in the current SiRF FW than the GPS reciever itself. As regards to EGNOS the safest thing would probably bee to wait until next year (when EGNOS has been officially released) before trusting the SiRF implementations...
With the BR355 receiver (which has a PS2 type connection) you can request a cable to convert it to USB. So effectively, you can have 1x cable for your PDA and 1x cable for your laptop if you intend to do GPS on both devices. _________________ www.easydevices.co.uk

It is not the PS2 port that connects to the PPC, but a set of cables allowing the different PPC connectors to interface to the GPS through a PS2 connector _________________ Mike Barrett
