Absolute newcomer making a choice

I am looking at entering into the world of GPS or SatNav (I am still not used to the terminology) and I am very confused about the range of options available. I have so far narrowed it down to two - either a Compaq iPAQ running TravRoute Pocket CoPilot or the in-car system provided by Honda. The comparison between the pocket gps has been very useful, but given the huge difference in price, can the in-car system be that much better - I can find no information on the Honda system for comparison purposes. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
