I am very disappointed with the map data used in TomTom5, for the price i would have expected my 3 year old house to be on it, instead the entire estate is missing, even in postcode search. Many other local mistakes such as junctions that are corners, T junctions that are roundabouts, or just complete sections missing.

Anybody know how often new maps are released, if at all?

David

The maps are probably no more than 3 months old, but the data contained in them is most likely 2 years old as it can take that long to compile the surveyed data and produce the maps that the software uses.

Who compiles the maps for TomTom?. Our 8 year old house still doesn't appear on the maps so as far as TomTom is concerned I live in the middle of an unidentified road. Rolling Eyes

The maps are compiled by TeleAltas.

I send a number of map errors through the Tomtom site when I was using version 4, none of them have been implemented in version 5.

It says on the site:
TomTom aims to provide you with the most current and highest quality maps available in Europe and North America and your feedback is one important part in meeting that goal.

I think they are a way off that goal.

When I downgraded to TTN5, I did so only because I wanted the updated maps,

I have found the maps are still out of date, with a local bypass still not added,

The A34/M4 junction is now added, BUT, the information given when heading north and wanting to go to Reading is wrong, Says 'stay right' when you should 'stay left',

Maybe when TomTom use Navteq maps, then we might see an improvement,

Carl,

The reason it takes so long to get missing/new areas etc. added is that the mapping company have to do a detailed survey of the area, check all the data, update their own database them compile it and supply it to TomTom. The basic problem is having enough survey teams out and about. They tend to focus more on new un-surveyed areas rather tham surveying old areas to correct errors reported.
