I wonder if anyone has any views on whether Palm or iPaq provides the best Sat Nav option?

Regards.

I'd say it has to be Pocket PC. If you're wanting in-car navigation, that's an application that will use as much processor power and memory as is thrown at it - and Pocket PCs have more of both, on the whole. Pocket PCs also tend to have more expansion options.

In car navigation options on Palm OS are pretty limited. TomTom, for example, don't produce a version of Navigator for Palm OS. There's many more options for Pocket PC.

What it doesn't have to be is an iPAQ - there are other options around, such as the Dell Axim X5 Advanced, that may be more cost effective than an iPAQ. It's rumoured, however, that that's some new iPAQs on the way, which should be interesting!

aero, Pocket PC has more scope and much more options available. Palm does have support for quite a number of GPS Receivers now, and these are growing, but from an application point of view, you are limited to TomTom CityMaps, TomTom RoutePlanner, Mapopolis or Navman's GPS500 (which uses TomTom CityMaps and RoutePlanner).
