For general information.

I tested Route 66 with my A1000 and a Dell BT-309 receiver and it worked ok with a few reservations.
On the dashboard of my car, I could consistantly aquire 3-5 satelittes most of the time, occasionally dropping to 2.
Along one particular leafy lane with overhead tree cover, the signal dropped out completely.
Once clear of the trees, the signal returned. In doors I could get no signal, the receiver had to be placed on the window sill to get a fix.

I am now using Route 66 with my A1000 and a Holux GPSlim 236 bluetooth receiver.

What a difference.

Indoors, I can get a fix for 4-6 satellites easily. On the dashboard of the car, 8-10 is the norm.
In the glove compartment, still 5-7 and in my jacket pocket again 5-7.

I havn't tried the leafy lane yet, but I doubt it will cause a problem.
Last night I drove along the A4 under the elevated M4 with literally no visible sky. The signal stayed locked on.

I appreciate this receiver costs approximately £100, but I nearly brought a £60 one from ebay.

On careful consideration and a lot of investigation and reading, I chose the 236 due to the sirf III chip inside.
It was this one or the BT-338.

I purchased this from a UK sellar for peace of mind (in the event of a problem) with next day delivery.

It really is very small and light, it will almost fit on a key ring. (67mm x 45mm x 19mm)

Did I want to spend that much......not really.....but then I thought, when you are relying on it for navigation, when you are truly lost, what good is full sat/nav with no signal.

It's like having the best mobile phone with a flat battery, or no credit.

Strongly recommended.

May I ask who you got it from Question
I made the mistake of getting a cheap GPS(GP-27) only to have to return it. Sad

Of course you can

I've had it a couple of days now, hasn't dropped the signal once, even whilst in my pocket.

Very pleased with it so far, well worth a look.
