wired gps fault

My tomtom wired gps unit has stopped working. It flashes red instead of green and dosnt pick up satellites even after been switched on for 24 hours.A borrowed unit works fine in the same set up, the faulty one dosn't work in the other setup.Are they repairable & if not should I replace with the same type or are any of the alternatives better?

TomTom do replace faulty hardware (I think for 12 months after purchase) - log into the TomTom website, and ask them a question about the fault.
